Latest news, research and events from the Melbourne Disability Institute at the University of Melbourne
Happy Holidays from the Melbourne Disability Institute! We would like to thank each of you for your support this year and wish everyone in our MDI community a happy holiday season and new year! After all of the disruptions, dislocation and challenges over the last few years, we are very much looking forward to 2022! We will use the time in the new year to develop some new exiting initiatives, we will think about how we can better support interdisciplinary disability research here on campus and how we can continue to help build the evidence-base needed to guide social and disability policy reforms. As always we welcome your feedback, thoughts and suggestions. Again, we wish you a very happy holiday season!
From all of us at the Melbourne Disability Institute

Carers Victoria invites you to share your views about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on you and your caring role.

Automated Income Reporting - CentreLink
At MDI we have become aware that the Department of Social Services (DSS) and Centrelink are rolling out a new automated system which will facilitate income reporting to Centrelink for people with disability who are on a disability support pension (DSP).The Australian Tax Office (ATO) and Centrelink have been testing a system called Single Touch Payroll, which provides for automated reporting to the ATO and from there to Centrelink. This system will become progressively mandatory from 1 January, 2022 and is expected to be fully implemented by the end of next year. This means it should become part of all payroll systems by the end of
2022. This new system is a step forward in helping to remove some of the 'red tape' around onboarding processes for employment of people with disability.
