In honor of their service, award winners, senior promotions, and clinical distinctions were celebrated during the department’s virtual Honors and Awards Celebration August 26. Attendees cheered on the award recipients as their names were called and celebrated with colorful Zoom backgrounds. Featured EventVirtual Lunch with a Leader Series Want an opportunity to have an informal lunch (via Zoom) with one of our DOM Vice Chairs or our Chair? Submit your interest below for our new Lunch with a Leader series. These small groups will provide a unique forum to connect with colleagues from across divisions and with departmental leadership. These round table discussions will be hosted monthly from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Spots are limited, so registration is required. Faculty from all divisions and subspecialties are welcome! Monday, September 21, 2020 Wednesday, October 14, 2020 ResearchRegister Now for 2020 DOM Research Day The program includes both oral and poster presentations, as well as a keynote address titled, “Hemolytic anemia as a mechanism for vasculopathy and pulmonary hypertension in sickle cell disease and other hemolytic conditions,” from Mark Gladwin, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine and director of the Vascular Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. Awards are given at the conclusion of the day to recognize the most outstanding presentations. The event brings together researchers from all divisions and provides an opportunity to share exciting new findings, facilitate scientific exchange, and identify potential new collaborations. EducationMedical Education Day This annual School of Medicine event is a full-day series of presentations and discussions celebrating and examining the future of medical education. This year’s theme is “Cultural Humility in Healthcare” and will feature a keynote from Lisa M. Meeks, PhD, MA, assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Michigan. The School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council with support from Health Resources and Services Administration, are pleased to offer a five-month career development program for 15 underrepresented minority faculty. This longitudinal program will provide resources, information, and tools important for academic success. The course will feature didactic sessions from diverse speakers, experiential components, along with peer mentoring and networking. Participants will also be paired with organizational leaders as coaches during this process. COVID-19 TrackingThe COVID-19 Dashboard is an online resource that provides daily updates on COVID-19 cases within our community. The dashboard can be found at Emory Forward. In addition to the number of COVID-19 positive cases reported for Emory faculty, staff, and students, the dashboard shows information on infection rates for the counties in which our campuses are located and Atlanta area hospital capacity. Child Care ResourcesFor many Emory faculty and staff parents, the COVID-19 pandemic has made back-to-school more challenging.
