Introducing Ashlyn Tymms and Lachlann Lawton, 2025 OA Winners Ashlyn receives the YMF Australia Award of $30,000 Australian mezzo-soprano Ashlyn Tymms is forging a distinguished career across opera, concert performance, and chamber music, admired for her velvety tone and vivid mezzo timbre. In 2025 she made her Opera Australia debut as Dorothée in Cendrillon and returned as Ježibaba in Rusalka, and also debuted with State Opera South Australia as the Stewardess in Flight. Recent highlights include major 2024 role debuts as Ježibaba, Dido, and Fanny Price for West Australian Opera and New Zealand Opera, alongside an extensive repertoire with WAO including Carmen, Dorabella, Santuzza, and Hansel. In 2026, Ashlyn will perform several roles across Australia and make her debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. With West Australian Opera, she will appear as Flora in La traviata and Olga in Eugene Onegin. She will also make her Pinchgut Opera debut as Cain in Scarlatti’s Il Primo Omicidio. Additionally, Ashlyn will reprise the role of Ježibaba in Rusalka with Opera Queensland and make her debut with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Auckland. A passionate advocate for new music, she has premiered works by Melody Eötvös and Katy Abbott. She holds degrees from the University of Melbourne and the Royal College of Music. Lachlann receives the The Armstrong-Martin Scholarship of $5,000 and The Glyndebourne Festival Prize, where the singer is invited to attend staged rehearsals and to audition for the Glyndebourne
