BMRC Summer Student Research Program Hosts Capstone Poster Presentation

On Friday, August 2, the inaugural class of the BMRC Summer Student Research Program celebrated their achievements with a poster presentation luncheon. Students showcased their work to their mentors, fellow lab investigators and others.

Over the past 8 weeks, students were exposed to both hands-on laboratory research and in-classroom learning, guided by expert mentors in the BMRC labs. Some classroom topics included communication and networking skills, how to apply to medical/graduate school and how to give an effective “elevator pitch” about your research.

Students designed and presented their research findings on Friday and discussed their educational plans and future goals with their mentors.

Find more photos from the day on the BMRC Facebook page.

A Star's Rise: UPMC Sports Medicine and Dr. Volker Musahl Play Role In Arsenal FC's Defender's Success

Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal FC's newest defender, made his first appearance this past weekend in Arsenal's 2-0 win. He's been touted as a great addition to the team, with Mikel Arteta, Arsenal Manager, saying Calafiori's inclusion will make the team "stronger".

It hasn't always been goals and cheers, however. Calafiori's career nearly ended after a catastrophic left knee injury in 2018. Calafiori's agent at the time organized for him to get the best care possible - with Dr. Volker Musahl and the UPMC Sports Medicine Team.

Calafiori visited Dr. Musahl at the UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital in Rome in 2021 to express his gratitude for the care he received.
