ACCC publish recall of children's sand products due to asbestos risks

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Product Safety published a recall notice for children’s sand products that may contain asbestos.

The recall was issued by supplier Educational Colours for colourful children’s sand products sold at Officeworks, Modern Teaching Aids and Zart Art between 2020 and 2025.

The sand is labelled as:

  • Kadink Sand (1.3kg)
  • Educational Colours – Rainbow Sand (1.3kg)
  • Creatistics – Coloured Sand (1kg)

Images and detailed product descriptions are available in the recall notice. Additional information is available here

The ACCC advises consumers should:

  1. Stop using the products immediately.
  2. Place the sand in a heavy-duty plastic bag and double tape it securely and keep it out of reach of children.
  3. Do not dispose of the product in general waste. Information on the disposal of asbestos waste, including disposal facilities in your state or territory can be found on The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency website
  4. Contact recalls@educationalvantage.com for guidance around disposal and seeking a full refund.
