National Day of Mourning for
Queen Elizabeth II
Many may be aware of the successful ‘Reflections’ time each Thursday morning at Victor Harbor. As the National Day of Mourning commemorating the life, service and example of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was also on a Thursday it was decided that the usual ‘Reflections’ event at the Newland should be elevated to acknowledge this special public holiday of mourning and to invite the wider inclusion of the general public. An Invitation from the Moderator
Moderator Bronte Wilson invites all across the church to join him in acknowledging and formally inducting Rev Dr Tim Hein and Rev Professor Vicky Balabanski into their new roles at Uniting College for Leadership and Theology. Tim as Executive Officer of Mission and Leadership Development and Vicky as the Principal of the College. We come together to celebrate their commitment to the renewal of Uniting College for Leadership and Theology on Thursday, October 6th from 4.00 pm - 6.00 pm at Adelaide West Uniting Church. Synod Strategy and Planning (Mission and Property) Update
Since the June meeting of the Synod, the working group has been going through the feedback given at the Synod meeting about the report tabled at the meeting. The next stage has commenced of this important project, assessing what is required for the church to meet Synod’s request to present a draft Property Strategy, including maps that identify the number and geographical locations of missionally vibrant and viable communities to the next meeting of the Synod in June 2023. International Day of Older Persons
In 1990 the United Nations established the 1st of October as the International Day of Older Persons. This is a day to celebrate the wisdom, experience, and stories of older people; recognise the joys and challenges of ageing; challenge misconceptions about older persons and ageing; and to enable older persons to realise their potential to build a life of dignity, contribution, and human rights. MediaCom Education has a range of books on growing old boldly with faith, positive spirit and purposefulness. Read more
Calling all Suicide Awareness Banners
Over the past 11 years, Scots Church Adelaide has provided Suicide Prevention Day banners to Uniting Church congregations across South Australia. They would now like to be able to document this project with photographs of banners where they hang each year. Congregations who have received a banner from Scots Church are asked to please send them a photograph of the banner and any connected activity. Read more
As the year draws to a close the Sally Stamp group would like to thank all that have donated stamps this year. Donations have been made to the South Pacific School Aid and Outback Pastor as a result of stamp donations. As we move towards Christmas you are asked to please save your stamps which can be dropped into the Synod office in 212 Pirie Street. Read more
Rev Dr Sean Gilbert presents his paper, 'Disruption and the vital place of resonant ministry practice.' Twice called unexpectedly out of the solitary world of study leave into the relational sphere of funeral leadership, Sean’s presentation traces a recent and surprising pastoral journey. His reflection on that experience is interspersed with insights gleaned from other writers as well as drawing on his own previous research and writings. This event is offered in person and online via a Zoom link. Read more
Seminary of the Third Age Events
Seminary of the Third Age events in October include: Brian Phillips on the topic of 'Hope in a time of impending disaster,' and Rick Sarre on the topic of 'Freedom in the context of a global pandemic.' Adelaide Male Voice Choir
The Adelaide Male Voice Choir presents a concert at Morialta Uniting Church. The concert will include opera choruses and popular songs plus a cello solo by Julian Leske accompanied by Nikolai Leske at the piano. The Choir has maintained a fine tradition of fellowship and good singing throughout its history and has always sought to provide musical delight to its audiences. Read more

The beauty of listening is that, those who are listened to start feeling accepted, start taking their words more seriously and discovering their own true selves.
