Chasing national glory in Tauranga![]() Marion Hakaraia and Adam Blucher are in Tauranga this weekend representing Te Atatū and Auckland at the National Champ of Champs Mixed Pairs. Back in July, this dynamic duo combined superbly to claim the regional title – now they’re aiming to take it one step further on the national stage. With Blucher’s vocal attacking style paired with Hakaraia’s calm, consistent draw game, they’re a formidable combination. Can they turn regional success into national honours? We’ll be cheering them on – good luck Marion and Adam! 💙💙 Bronze for Mt Albert Triples![]() Congratulations to Zoran Bartulovich, Neven Grgicevich, and Johnny Pocrnich from Mt Albert who claimed bronze at last weekend’s National COC Men’s Triples. Their run ended in the semifinals against Peter Belliss’s side – who went on to take the championship – but a podium finish is a fantastic achievement. 👏 Battling hard at the Nulook U26 Fives-- Les Eagleton Our Auckland Under-26 squad – Adam Blucher, Hannah Dawson, Liam Hill, Ryan Hill, and David Motu – faced tough competition at the Nulook National Under-26 Fives Tournament in Wellington last weekend. The format featured Singles and Fours, along with Pairs and Triples, played across a two-day round robin before playoffs for final placings. Auckland finished third in section play, just outside contention for the title match. Taranaki and Canterbury advanced to the final, with Canterbury eventually lifting the trophy. In the playoff for third and fourth, Auckland met a strong Wellington side. The opening round was full of drama, with Hannah Dawson showing composure with some excellent draw bowls and Adam Blucher pulling off some incredible saving shots, only for the Pairs to be edged out on the last end. The Triples also fell short, leaving Auckland needing to win both remaining matches with a differential of more than eight. Liam Hill rose to the challenge in the Singles, claiming a 21–11 win with a brilliant final-end draw to the edge of the ditch – securing the differential in style. That left everything riding on the Fours, but despite the best efforts of Adam, David, Hannah, and Ryan, Wellington proved too strong and claimed third place overall. While the results didn’t all go our way, the squad – all under 21, gained invaluable experience. The tournament provided learnings both on and off the green. A top-half finish is a solid platform to build on, and the team is eager to continue developing and improving heading into future events. A big thank you to coaches Brendon Walton and Lisa Prideaux for their support, and to Bowls Wellington for hosting. ![]() ![]() Pringle Park's September Charity Night-- Rob Alker There’s something special about a night when bowls clubs come together for more than just bowls. On Friday 20 September, Pringle Park Bowling Club is opening its doors for an evening of live music, raffles, and plenty of fun — all in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ. Blue September has become a nationwide movement, raising awareness and vital funds for men’s health. Pringle Park is proud to play its part by hosting a night where laughter and generosity go hand in hand. Local favourites Knee Deep will set the tone with live music, while raffles, auctions, and spot prizes promise plenty of excitement throughout the evening. But beyond the entertainment lies the heart of the event: every ticket sold, every bid placed, and every prize won will help fund the work of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. It’s a chance for the bowls community — and beyond, to gather, have a great time, and show support for a cause that touches so many families. So rally your friends, bring your dancing shoes, and get ready for a night to remember at Pringle Park. Together, we can bowl over cancer. Kohi Opens Season In Style-- Cynthia Morris Kohimarama Bowling Club launched its 67th season in true Kohi spirit last weekend. Saturday’s Opening Day featured the traditional flag-raising, gold jack, and first bowl – delivered this year by new bowler Simon Rainger – followed by a shared lunch and roll-up. Long-serving volunteer Marlene Mak was also celebrated for her remarkable service since 2011 across roles including Secretary, President, Selector, Coach, and Fun Bowls Convenor. Bowls Auckland President Helen Blick shared how Marlene first encouraged her into bowls – “the rest is history!” On Sunday, the second annual Kohi Eastern Junior Classic brought together teams from St Heliers, Glendowie, Remuera, and Kohi. St Heliers Blue impressed with a clean sweep to take the title, while St Heliers Gold claimed second. Players praised the event as a great chance to compete, connect, and enjoy bowls together. Kohi now rolls into its first club competition – the Collins Cup Fours this weekend, with the Tuesday Open Triples starting 2 September. We hope to see you there! ![]() ![]() Kittyhawk’s Mid-Winter Tournament-- Greame Scott Kittyhawk Bowling Club recently staged its mid-winter tournament at Glen Eden Bowling Club, with 51 bowlers braving the conditions for a lively day of competition. The weather played its part, staying kind for three games, and spirits were high on and off the green. Top honours went to Doug McNamara, John Geaney and Tony Holdsworth, while runners-up were Peter Blucher, Andy Ellis and Adam Blucher. In a wonderful show of support for the future of the sport, Kittyhawk also donated $1,000 to the Givealittle page for Briar Atkinson and Cameron Horo, helping them on their way to Ireland for the World Indoor Junior Championships. ![]()
