Promoting and protecting the data, insights and research industry Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an annual event led by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) that promotes the importance of protecting personal information. ADIA has long supported PAW and remains committed to servicing our members and advocating good data privacy practices under the industry’s only registered Privacy Code. In the wake of the recent data breaches involving Qantas and ClubsNSW, which impacted millions of people, now is the ideal time for all of us to ‘power up’ our existing privacy practices ahead of privacy law reform and the changing technological landscape. ADIA members wanting to 'power up their privacy' can visit the ADIA Academy for a range of new training modules and tools to support their organisation's privacy compliance. Additionally, Andrew Maher, Partner CIE Legal and Sarah Campbell, CEO of ADIA, are on hand to provide industry advice on privacy matters. ADIA Members attending the Leaders Forum earlier this year were privileged to hear first-hand from Angelene Falk, Australia's Information Commissioner (and Regulator), about the impending changes to Australia’s privacy laws, particularly how the proposed legislation will affect ADIA member organisations and the broader industry. During the discussion, Commissioner Falk highlighted the ADIA’s work in ensuring members comply with the Australian Privacy Principles and a registered Privacy Code - going above and beyond minimum privacy law compliance obligations.
