Trend Diabetes has published new national guidance on Injection Technique Matters (ITM) to ensure care teams are provided with the most up-to-date safety advice on injectable therapy. Entitled ‘For Healthcare Professionals: CORRECT INJECTION TECHNIQUE IN DIABETES CARE. BEST PRACTICE GUIDELINE. 3rd edition’, the newly refreshed guideline seeks to support all clinicians with evidence-based clinical practice, information and guidance. Trend Diabetes Co-Chairs Debbie Hicks and June James have updated the latest national guidance on ITM along with the organisation’s clinical committee members Erica Richardson, Sam Calder, Lisa King and Debbie Voigt. Debbie Hicks said: “Thousands of clinicians across the UK deliver injection technique care using our ITM guidelines. “They experience first-hand the benefits for their practice and the joy of seeing people with diabetes who use injectable therapies achieve their health potential.” June James added: “Our goal is to make the guideline simple to implement and ultimately support the development of clinicians to become experts in insulin and GLP-1 RA delivery. “By providing healthcare professionals with this guidance, they will be enabled to support people who inject to become experts on their own, leading to better health outcomes and improved health and wellbeing.” Trend Diabetes’ ITM guidelines are being implemented by thousands of clinicians across the UK and other countries throughout the world, such as Southern Ireland, Germany, France, New Zealand and Australia. Hypoglycaemia explained Trend Diabetes in the WirralEarlier this year we trained Band 3 staff at the Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust to independently administer insulin to non-complex individuals in the community setting. We provided the team with a better understanding of diabetes, how to use insulin pens and different types of insulin, as well as different ways to use needle gauges. According to the Trust, staff have come away from the training feeling positive and engaged in this project and excited to implement this new role into their scope of clinical skills and associated clinical competency. The Trust said: “As a Community Trust we cannot recommend Trend Diabetes enough. Their bespoke approach to training and approachable, friendly manner was a key fundamental factor in the provision of this training. “Following review of staff feedback, I have no doubt that all of the delegates will go on to complete the additional elements of the training successfully and champion this new additional clinical skill into their Band 3 role.” In this episode, Trend Co-Chair June James and Dr Rebecca Thomas speak about everything there is to know about diabetic eye disease.
