March saw the return of our Business Leaders Lunch event series with Keynote Daniel Considine, sharing Secon's journey over the years and and the impact of freight economic growth in Wyndham. A highlight this month was our CEO receiving the International Women’s Day Business Award recognising her dedication to the Committee for Wyndham and the business community. In March, key political discussions with Councillors and MPs are already driving significant change for Wyndham. The Committee continues to engage in these discussions to ensure we are a strong advocate for local businesses and the region. Warm Regards, Leanne Down, CEO Our 2025 Business Leaders Lunch Event Series with CEO, Daniel Considine at the prestigious Lancemore Hotel and Mansion Our recent Business Leaders Lunch was an invaluable opportunity for our members to connect, exchange ideas, and gain insights from industry leaders. These gatherings continue to reinforce the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing within our business community. We were privileged to hear from CEO Daniel Considine of Secon Freight Logistics, who shared his honest career trajectory and the journey of the Secon the organisation. His reflections highlighted the reality that the path to business success—whether for small enterprises or large corporations—is rarely linear. Daniel spoke about the remarkable growth of Secon Freight Logistics, a Considine family-owned company that has thrived by fostering a workplace culture where every team member feels valued and included. His story was a powerful reminder of the role that resilience, innovation, and strong leadership play in business growth. Complementing the day’s discussions, attendees were treated to an exclusive guided tour of the stunning Lancemore Hotel and Mansion, led by Anand Unnikrishnan and Joyce Castillo. Their expertise provided a fascinating look into the hotel’s exceptional facilities, further enriching the experience for our guests. We look forward to seeing you at our next Business Leaders Lunch on June 19th registrations opening soon. ![]() Building Leadership Excellence: Emerging Leaders Orientation March 4th, marked the official launch of the Emerging Leaders Program, bringing together a dynamic group of participants eager to grow as leaders and make a meaningful impact in Wyndham. Led by Matt Gaffney, the orientation allowed participants to connect, understand the program, and set expectations. Discussions and activities laid a strong foundation for future collaboration. Our CEO, Leanne Down encouraged embracing opportunities. Participants also had the opportunity to hear from Stephen Wall, CEO of Wyndham City Council, where he shared his leadership insights. Participants will tackle challenges for Wyndham with final presentations at a graduation ceremony on the 2nd September. A highlight of the day was seeing our CEO, Leanne Down – MICDA, receive the International Women’s Day Business Award—a well-deserved recognition of the Committee’s ongoing dedication to Wyndham’s growth and future direction. As a non-partisan organisation, we are committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our community, empower individuals, and create meaningful opportunities for all. It was an honor to be among so many inspiring women and young girls who are shaping the future and we remain dedicated to championing initiatives that empower our community. ![]() Empowering Businesses: Key Discussions with Government Leaders Leanne, recently met with The Hon. Natalie Suleyman MP, Minister for Small Business, Employment, Youth, and Veterans, as well as Sarah Connolly MP and Dylan Wight MP. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in Wyndham and those delivering services throughout the region. We were encouraged by the initiatives planned to support businesses and look forward to the opportunities for the Committee to assist our members and the broader business community. ![]() ![]() ![]() Collaborating for Wyndham’s Economic Growth with Cr Jasmine Hill, Cr Susan McIntyre and Cr Preet Singh Throughout March, Leanne met with Cr Jasmine Hill, Cr Susan McIntyre, and Cr Preet Singh to discuss key strategies for strengthening Wyndham’s local economy. The discussions reinforced a shared commitment to driving economic growth, expanding opportunities for emerging students, and fostering the development of key industry sectors. The Committee regularly engages with councillors to ensure continued advocacy for local businesses and to drive positive change across our community.
