Auckland's rep squads gather to celebrate team spiritOn Wednesday evening Auckland's reps from its three squads gathered to celebrate the players selected for upcoming fixtures in March. Against the backdrop of team spirit, the evening not only recognised achievements but also fostered a sense of unity among the city's top bowlers. Young Kiwi swimming sensation, Lewis Clareburt, with accolades including the 2024 400m Individual Medley World Championship and double gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, shared his invaluable insights into the life of a top-tier athlete. His dedication and preparation for competitive swimming and his preparation for the 2024 Olympics were inspiration and motivation for the aspiring bowlers in attendance. It is with sadness to learn of the passing of Peter Wagner, on Wednesday, 6 March. Peter's legacy at Glendowie Bowling Club is indelible. For nine years, he served as the dedicated President, guiding the club with wisdom, passion, and unwavering commitment. Under his leadership, Glendowie BC flourished, and his absence leaves an irreplaceable void. Beyond his leadership role, Peter was pretty handy on the green, his skill led to an impressive seven club championships. But Peter's impact extended far beyond his individual achievements. Even amidst his busy schedule as a successful one-man band business owner, Peter was proactive in nurturing the next generation of bowlers, always encouraging juniors to embrace the sport and become the best they could be. His passion for fostering a fun and competitive club atmosphere was infectious, making every game an occasion for all involved. While we wait for further details regarding Peter's funeral arrangements, our thoughts are with Peter's family and friends during this difficult time. Vibrant competition and camaraderieThe Molecheck Interclub 7s qualifying rounds proved to be a fantastic day, with clubs converging on the green in a kaleidoscope of club colours, demonstrating camaraderie throughout the day. Despite the anticipation for post-section play on Sunday, Mother Nature had other plans, necessitating the relocation of all three competitions to the Reserve Day, Saturday, 9 March. Congratulations to the teams who used their skills to secure their qualifying spots. Their performances set the stage for an even more thrilling display to come at Howick BC this Saturday. We eagerly await their continued excellence on the green – good bowling everyone! Check out who's qualified...
