No images? Click here Dear members and colleagues We have another exciting month or so ahead, with many events planned to see out our 70th anniversary. I would like to congratulate the newest women silks – Ragni Mathur SC, Kellie Stares SC, Justine Beaumont SC, Elizabeth Bishop SC, and Martha Barnett SC. Their recent appointments will be celebrated at the Women Silks Drinks on 3 November 2022. I have been advised that tickets are still available. I invite you to our AGM and end-of-year celebration on 22 November 2022, kindly hosted by the College of Law. See details below and on our website. I encourage you to consider nominating for the Executive Committee. I have very much enjoyed my time on the Executive Committee, as a general member then office-bearer. It has given me great insight into how the Association runs and has provided me with many opportunities to network with a broad range of members of our profession. For those in Newcastle or Wollongong, or for those willing to travel, see the details below and on our website for their upcoming end-of-year celebrations. Both sound like they will be a fabulous evening. WLANSW is a supporting association for the upcoming Advancing Women in Law Conference . We have negotiated a 50% discount for our members. A wonderful opportunity to attend what looks like it will be a fantastic event. Last month, Janet Coombs AM, one of our Founding Members and a Life Member of the WLANSW, passed away. The Women Barristers Forum is hosting a Celebration of the Life of Janet Coombs AM on 17 November 2022. This event will be held in the Bar Common Room from 6.00-8.00pm and is free of charge, with food and drinks provided. The Honourable Mary Gaudron KC is the guest speaker. The Women Barristers Forum in conjunction with the WLANSW produced a video, entitled “Janet Coombs Welcome to New Women Barristers”, which will also be launched at this event. Guests are required to register at this link: Registrations. WLANSW has partnered with the Asian Australian Lawyers Association on the Data and Policy Subcommittee, collecting data on the barriers to career progression faced by culturally diverse solicitors. This Subcommittee was formed in early 2022 and will be launching the Cultural Diversity Focus Groups Project: Pilot Outcomes Report on Thursday 10 November 2022. You can register for the launch event, to be held at King & Wood Mallesons Sydney and online, at http://membersuite.aala.org.au/event-5019052. Lastly, I encourage you to follow WLANSW on our various social media channels. Our Vice President, Justine Anderson, ensures we maintain an active presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Information on our events and other opportunities can first be seen here. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.
