Sekar named Associate Clerkship Director

Dr. Dheepa Sekar was selected as the Associate Clerkship Director for the M3 medical student Core Internal Medicine clerkship.

Dr. Sekar practices primary care at Grady Memorial Hospital and supervises residents and students in the primary care clinic and general medicine wards. She is passionate about observation and feedback for learners and has presented nationally on these topics. She also enjoys teaching communication skills, particularly for the benefit of our disadvantaged populations, as well as teaching clinical reasoning.

As the Associate Clerkship Director for the third-year medical student Core Internal Medicine clerkship, Dr. Sekar will partner with Dr. Jernigan to oversee the eight-week required rotation for all third-year Emory University School of Medicine students. During the clerkship, each student rotates for four weeks at Grady Memorial Hospital and four weeks at one of the following three sites: the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Emory University Hospital, or Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Walker featured in new Long COVID video

Dr. Tiffany Walker was selected by the American Public Health Association (APHA) to feature in the APHA Thought Leadership Film Series for her work in the Long COVID field as Director of the Atlanta Long COVID Collaborative. With approval from Emory and Grady media relations, Dr. Walker was featured and filmed a brief documentary of the work, which debuted at the APHA 2024 annual conference. GIM Faculty Presentations

Dr. Stan Sonu spoke at the "Increasing Access to Justice" Forum for the Legal Services Corporation in his role as Medical Director for the Health Law Partnership. He spoke on the importance of medical-legal partnerships in advancing health equity, one family at a time. Dr. Sonu's talk was very well-received. You can watch the panel in the video recording linked below.

Dr. Sonu was also invited to co-lead a workshop at the 2024 AAMC Learn, Serve, Lead Conference on “Health Justice: How to Build a Medical-Legal Partnership Session.” This opportunity has inspired Dr. Sonu further to increase the visibility of medical-legal partnerships across Georgia.

Dr. Chris Masi led three poster presentations at the Department of Medicine Research Day. "Innovation contest and perceptions of work among employees in Primary Care" included inter-professional collaboration with the School of Nursing. "Novel strategies to reduce EHR in basket volume in Primary Care" was a collaboration with colleagues from GIM (Dr. Kennard Hood, Dr. Reema Dbouk, and Dr. Jennifer Zreloff) as well as from Geriatrics and other SOM departments. "Data availability and quality metric performance" had collaborators from other SOM departments.
