Karinya News - May 2025

Dear Friends of Karinya

We hope you are well and managing to stay warm as the winter weather arrives.

It has been a very busy time at Karinya House. In May we have seen an influx of referrals, and our Care Team are getting to know each individual woman and identifying what her unique support needs are. Over recent weeks, we have also been very pleased to support a number of women into their own independent accommodation. It is always a privilege to walk alongside women as they take this big step forward in their family's journey. We wish each of the women all the best for the next stage, with the knowledge they can reach out to Karinya House at any time, should they need support.

Earlier in May, we hosted our annual Mother's Day lunch for the women we are currently walking alongside. It was a lovely day of celebration for women and their babies. We would like to particularly acknowledge Priceline Pharmacy in Woden for their generous and thoughtful Mother's Day gift bags for each woman. They were a lovely expression of love and filled with treats to help women take care of themselves.

As always, we extend a sincere thanks to all of our wonderful supporters in the Karinya Village and we acknowledge each and every contribution that is made by volunteers and donors.

Please note: references to events or appeals below are for the information of all our Friends. If you are a financial Friend of Karinya House, be assured we value the current extent of your financial support, and no additional support from current donors is being sought through the sharing of this news, other than asking you to consider sharing this eNews with friends or family if it may be of interest to them.

Quilts of love

We were so grateful to recently receive a set of beautiful handmade quilts made by the fabulous students at St Edmunds College.

Each quilt is compiled of 20 hand-drawn squares designed by individual students that convey their own unique expressions of love. gratitude and respect for mothers. Several of the quilts have now been hung in the hallway of our shared accommodation facility for women to enjoy on a daily basis.

Thank you to each of the students and the staff at St Edmunds who contributed to this beautiful, heartfelt gift, which speaks of care and respect.

Home. Hope. Horizon. Charity Appeal 2025

There is only one week remaining of our 2025 Home. Hope. Horizon. Charity Appeal.

Together with funds raised at our Charity Luncheon held, we are aiming to raise. We are currently $18,353 away from our fundraising target for the month of May.

The funding raised through the Charity Luncheon and May Appeal (to date $101,647 net of event costs) is an essential part of our annual fundraising efforts to ensure we can offer our support to all women, who are pregnant or parenting and in crisis, who seek our services throughout the year.

The Home. Hope. Horizon. event and our May Charity Appeal would not be possible without the support of our village. In particular, we would like to acknowledge our Principal Partner, Parker Coles Curtis as well as the contributions of our Associate Partners BAL Lawyers, North Belconnen Community Association, Parbery and Elect Printing.

We also acknowledge our Support Partners: Bellchambers Barrett, CK Architecture, Farrar Gesini Dunn, Canberra Southern Cross Club, Blumers, Successful Alliances, Solace Creations, Patient Experience Agency, McIntyre Property, Tetlow Lawyers and Your City Physio.

Our thanks also for each of the wonderful in-kind contributions for the event, which were valued at almost $139,000.  This made the event a lovely experience for all who attended. A special thanks to our In-kind event partners, Aunty Violet Sheridan, Genevieve Jacobs OAM, Justice Louise Taylor, Hyatt Hotel Canberra, Region Media, Elect Printing, Brianna Williams from LJ Hooker Gungahlin, Canberra Event Management & Styling, Altina drinks, Clonakilla Wines, Shaw Estate & Rhythm & Girl.

Our Home. Hope. Horizon. Charity Appeal is still active, and we gratefully welcome donations through until the end of the month.

Snippets....

Two messages received from women who have been recently supported by Karinya House highlight the importance of the care expressed to them by staff and volunteers.

"I’ve been busy lately with moving into our new home and haven’t had a chance to properly thank you to all the beautiful staff of Karinya, for the incredible help and love you gave us during our time there with my children. Words can't express how deeply we appreciate everything you’ve done for us."

"I got your birthday card yesterday and it made me tear up as I never had one like that"
