People living with diabetes will be able to access the next generation of the FreeStyle Libre in just a matter of months. Developed by Abbott, the FreeStyle Libre 3 CGM system provides continuous, real-time glucose readings automatically delivered to an individual’s mobile device every minute. The NICE guidelines covering the diagnosis and management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in young people under the age of 18 are currently being developed. Additionally, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is updating its guidance on the required medicines for type 2 diabetes. A doctor who has risen to number one in the world in his academic field and helped establish an international centre of excellence in diabetes research in Leicester has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year’s Honours List.
