Partners in Progress: Stories of Pitt's Impact Across Our Communities. 2023 Community Impact Report.

Dear colleagues, community leaders, partners, and friends:

The Office of Engagement and Community Affairs is thrilled to share Partners in Progress, our 2023 Community Impact Report, featuring stories of Pitt’s impact across our communities.

The 32 programs showcased in the report explore how, with the power of Pitt’s resources combined with meaningful community collaborations, we can partner to help our communities, and our region, succeed.

  • Our researchers are studying the impact of safe water access in under-resourced communities and providing solutions.
  • Our neighbors and community leaders are coming together to enact collective change for affordable housing.
  • Our students, staff and faculty are collaborating with community partners to provide easier access to fresh food and healthier living.
  • Our communities’ youth and families are being equipped with the knowledge, resources and support to be confident in their identities and successful in life.

The programs highlighted are just a few amongst hundreds that are happening throughout the entire Pitt system that help our partners and collaborators move forward strategies that lead to thriving communities. For the full scope of the community-engaged efforts happening across our region, we welcome you to explore, and add your own program to, the Engagement and Outreach Map.

We hope that the stories within leave you feeling motivated about Pitt’s community impact, excited to get involved and inspired to embrace the notion that we are partners in progress—progress that belongs to everyone.

Sincerely,

Lina Dostilio, Vice Chancellor for Engagement and Community Affairs
and the entire Office of Engagement and Community Affairs team

Pitt In Your Community

There are no borders or boundaries when it comes to learning from each other and using that knowledge to address community challenges.

The Engagement and Outreach Map helps coordinate and track the progress of Pitt’s engagement efforts across the University of Pittsburgh system.

The map was developed and is maintained by the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center at the University Center
for Social and Urban Research.

Since 2018, 447 engagement and outreach activities have been added to the map. Engagement and outreach activities can be found in 43 of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania.
