Northland win quad event

The Far North was welcomed back into the fray at Mangawhai on Sunday 23 January, after a long break joining Northland, Counties Manukau and Auckland in an Open Women’s Quadrangular event – a warm-up for the National Inter Centre competition in March.

The first round saw Auckland out of the blocks with decisive wins in the Singles and Fours (21-2 and 27-3). However, due to two key injuries on the day, the Auckland Selector was able to use the rest of the games as combination experiments.

Northland won on the day with 18 points +31 followed by Auckland on 16 points +47.

Back row (L-R) Karen Hema, Lisa Prideaux, Diane Harris, Linda Ralph, Helen Blick.
Front row (L-R) Ashleigh Jeffcoat, Catherine Bien, Kimberley Hemingway, Ling Qu.

Community spirit!

A big shout out to Mt Wellington Bowling Club for their effort in supporting the emergency appeal for Tonga. They coordinated the collection of donated goods for the appeal. Well done on your community spirit.

25 shipping containers filled with food and groceries were shipped on Wednesday from Auckland.  They were expected to reach Tonga on Monday.

Age is no barrier for this bowler...

Spotted yesterday competing at the Remuera Fours, 98-year-old Jack McDowall from St Heliers.

Many half his age would find it hard to compete in a two-day event.  He's an inspiration to us all - still playing and still smiling!

Remuera Fours

Remuera Bowling Club has just held its annual signature event, a two-day Fours tournament, held on 26 and 27 January.   he tournament was attended by clubs from Remuera, Carlton Cornwall, Glendowie, Howick, Kohimarama, St Heliers and Takapuna.

The tournament was played on the grass green, which was favourably received by the competing teams.  The wind on Thursday provided challenging conditions.  A band provided entertainment prior to and after prizegiving and the Club's hospitality was appreciated by everyone.  The tournament was sponsored by Tiger Turf, for which the Club is very grateful.

Fourth place getters were Howick, Third St Heliers, Second and winners were Carlton Cornwall.
