As we start to wrap things up for 2022, the SASTA Board and staff would like to wish you a very happy, relaxing and safe festive season and break! The SASTA office will be closed for the holiday break from midday 16 December and will reopen on Tuesday 10 January.

In the meantime, there is plenty of information / workshops below to get you started for the 2023 school year!

2023 SASTA Membership Renewal

 

Don't forget to renew your SASTA Membership before you go on holidays! 

You can renew your membership subscription on the SASTA website. The 2023 Professional Learning calendar is now available to help you plan for next year!

Don’t forget, your membership will expire on 31 December 2022, so if you want to register for any 2023 professional learning after this date, your 2023 membership will need to be paid before you register to be eligible for the member price.

 

SASTA Journal - Geoscience Edition

We're excited to release the 2nd edition of the Journal for 2022, which has a Geoscience focus. This includes some fantastic articles from Dr Richard Lilly, University of Adelaide, Tom Raimono & Lily Reid, Project LIVE and Mary Droser, University of California and colleagues.

The digital copy is now available to members in the SASTA Members Area. And a hard copy will be in the mail next week!

The SHE Task

This workshop is aimed at people who want to further their skills in setting, assessment and providing feedback on the SHE task. It also will cover the writing and marking of SHE questions for tests and examinations. There will be time to examine your own student work and participate in some cross-moderation and marking of work/drafts.

A Curious Thing - The Story of Mary Anning

Special Women in STEM opening night

On February 22nd, 7:30pm, at Ayers House, North Terrace the world
premiere performance of A Curious Thing - The Story of Mary Anning will
be followed by a panel discussion exploring the challenges faced by
women in STEM in 2022, and asking what’s changed and not changed

Energy, Mining and Resources School Outreach Program (EMRSO)

The EMRSO program offers a suite of interactive, curriculum-aligned workshops for Years 7-12 students delivered both at your school and on our campus. Additionally, the program will offer Year 12 student networking opportunities with industry as well as spark student interest in making the resources sector more sustainable and the global impacts they can make on an individual level. 

In 2023 we are also bringing you two exciting immersive, on-campus experiences to give students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the sector. Register your interest via the links below:

National Science Week Grants for 2023

Applications are open now for event holders to apply for support for holding in-person or online events in National Science Week 2023. Grants can be from $2,000 to $20,000 ex GST and the total grant pool is $500,000.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • inspire wide community participation in STEM
  • provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge
  • encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public
  • encourage younger people to become fascinated by the world we live in.

Regional school students buzzing over citizen science project results

Budding junior entomologists from 50 regional schools in South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia have successfully recorded thousands of new insects as part of the South Australian Museum’s citizen science project, Insect Investigators.

The project which launched in September 2021 connected regional and remote school students with researchers to learn about Australia’s rich biodiversity.
