Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends, What a great last week of the year! The students have been so excited this week, and staff have done a great job with trips, events and celebrations. Thank you all! I also have exciting news from the Brookes Education Group. We had a Board meeting earlier this week and top of the agenda was our school in Kyiv, Ukraine, and what we could do to mitigate the impact of the war on young Ukrainians. The Board unanimously voted to provide ten full scholarships for displaced Ukrainian students to live and study at our school, Brookes Westshore, starting in September. You can read more about this great initiative here and find out how you can support the students and contribute directly to their success – I know that our community will welcome them with open arms and warm hearts! I wish you all the best for the summer holidays and hope that you find time to relax and recuperate after this busy and challenging school year, With kind regards, Jerry Salvador Head of School Congratulations to all students on a very successful year of learning! The Celebration of Learning ceremonies held yesterday and today were organized and run by the students and they did a wonderful job. We heard a short speech from each grade level which was followed by the IB Learner Profile and Gryphon Awards. Each year, one to two students from each year level are chosen to receive the Gryphon Award. This award represents a student who continuously demonstrates the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and is a positive member of our school community. The Gryphon Awards for the 2021-2022 academic year:
Thank you to all parents and friends who have supported the school in so many ways over the past year. We couldn’t do it without you! I wish everyone a wonderful summer break and we’ll see you again in September. The DP1 students had a great time this week in Bamberton Park for their Group 4 Project. Through this interdisciplinary activity, students from the different group 4 subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) collaborated to analyse a common topic or problem by applying their knowledge learned in their first year of the Diploma Programme as well as their interpersonal and collaborative skills. Some research questions from this year’s Group 4 Project:

The Grade 9’s attended the National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations on Tuesday and took part in a game of ultimate with students from Saanich Leadership School organised by ISPARC (Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council).
