Housing Choice Vouchers See Greatest Expansion in 20 Years

HUD announced on Sept. 23 its awarding of more than 19,000 new Housing Choice Vouchers across the country to help address the housing crisis by making market-rate housing more affordable for lower-income families. Eligible families -- including refugees -- will have greater access to vouchers in more communities, with those vouchers also being of an increased value to account for rising rental costs.

Bipartisan Policy Center Introduces American Housing Act of 2023

The proposed bill draws on bipartisan approaches to increase production of affordable homes, to "preserve, enhance, and transform" existing housing stock, and to help families afford and access housing through reforms of rental assistance program adoption and other initiatives. The bill also addresses homelessness, eviction prevention, and homeownership initiatives for lower-income families.
