Oakland Promise is excited to welcome you back to a new academic year! Congratulations to all our new 2021 Scholars and new Mentors and welcome back to all our continuing Scholars and Mentors. For many, this will be your first term on your campus and for others it will be your first time stepping onto your campus after over a year of remote learning. While navigating a huge campus can be daunting, August is a great time to familiarize yourself with the resources available to you on your campus. Your school has specialized resources in-person and online that can support you in your success this term. Your Mentor can play an important role in connecting you with resources on your campus, seeking out resources that are needed or keeping you accountable to utilizing the campus support that will make you successful.

Scholar Doc Submission is OPEN

Scholar Doc submissions for Fall 2021 are now open! Scholar Doc submission period is 8/2-8/18.

Once ALL Scholar Docs are submitted and receive Advising approval, ALL scholars will have their check mailed between 9/6/21/ - 9/17/21. There are no advances or exceptions once we close the submission forms on 8/18/21.

All Scholar Docs will be submitted through your SCHOLAR PORTAL. You will no longer be using individual links to submit your Scholar Docs. If your are having issues accessing your Scholar Portal, check out our Portal FAQ's and email us at advising@oaklandpromise.org.

Last chance to request a Mentor for the 21-22 Academic Year

Calling all students without an OP Mentor! Do you think you would benefit from being mentored by a seasoned professional from the community who is committed to supporting you throughout your post-high school journey? Would you like to have someone in your support system to help you network and explore potential career pathways? Are you willing to complete a set of required activities with your Mentor to help build on your relationship?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you don't want to miss your last opportunity to request a Mentor for the 2021-22 academic year. Be sure to reach out to your OP Advisor (or advising@oaklandpromise.org) no later than Friday,  8/27 in order to put in your request and complete the next steps. After this date, any requests we receive will need to wait until our May 2022 match cycle. 

Mentor-Scholar Activity 1.3

Reminder to complete Activity 1.3, which launched in your Scholar portal on 8/2. In this activity, you and your Mentor will be establishing SMART goals and will discuss how you are going to support each other to achieve these goals. This activity includes 3 Parts:

• Individual Pre-work (Brainstorm ~ 15 min)
• Main Activity (Discussion & SMART Goals Activity ~ 60 min)
• Feedback Form (5 min).

​The SMART Goals Activity and Feedback Form are due by September 30th, at 11:59 pm. This activity and your unique Feedback Form link can be found in your Scholar Portal under "Scholarship Requirements." If you have any questions, please email advising@oaklandpromise.org. 

Mentor-Scholar Activity 2.2

Reminder to complete Activity 2.2, which launched in your Scholar portal on 8/2. In this activity, Mentors and Scholars will be reflecting on how their first year went and will be establishing SMART goals that challenge them to take their progress to the next level. This activity includes 3 Parts:

• Individual Pre-work (Article and Brainstorm~ 15 min)
• Main Activity (SMART Goals Activity ~ 60 min)
• Feedback Form (5 min).

The SMART Goals Activity and Feedback Form are due by September 30th, at 11:59 pm. This activity and your unique Feedback Form link can be found in your Scholar Portal under "Scholarship Requirements." If you have any questions, please email advising@oaklandpromise.org.
