FACULTY DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

DOM Clinical Distinctions nomination period closes this Friday

The Clinical Distinctions (CD) designation program is an annual School of Medicine program designed to recognize faculty who have devoted a majority of their time and careers to providing excellence in clinical care. Distinctions are awarded at three levels: Senior Physician, Distinguished Physician, and Eminent Physician. Program guidelines, distinction criteria, and required supporting documents may be found here.

Please contact your Division Director or Division Administrator if you are interested in being nominated. Divisions must submit names of nominees in each category to the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) by Friday, July 12.

As part of your nomination, you will need an updated CV in the proper SOM template. Learn how to easily move your CV into the current SOM template by watching the Emory SOM CV Fillable Template Instruction video.

Approved Clinical Distinctions take effect September 1, 2025. If you have any questions regarding the above deadlines or program information, please email Bevin Pascual.

DOM ANNOUNCEMENTS

DOM physicians represented in 2024 ‘Top Doctors’ list
in Atlanta magazine

VIEW THE DOM's TOP DOCS

Emory physicians once again lead in being recognized in Atlanta magazine’s 2024 “Top Doctors” issue. Physicians within Emory Healthcare, Emory Healthcare Network, Emory medical staff, and faculty and adjunct faculty of Emory University School of Medicine comprise 40% of the list. This year, 495 Emory physicians made the “Top Doctors” list out of 1,235 physicians named in the publication ─ with more Emory physicians named in the listing than any other healthcare system in metro Atlanta. Of these 495 Emory physicians, 31 are Department of Medicine faculty members.

The July issue of Atlanta magazine can be found on newsstands, while magazine subscribers should have received their issue at home. You can view the digital version here.

Funding News: Division of Renal Medicine's Polycystic Disease Center for Excellence at Emory

Did you know that the Division of Renal Medicine's Polycystic Disease Center for Excellence at Emory was awarded the official label of Polycystic Kidney Disease Center of Excellence in January 2023 by The PKD Foundation, and more recently received a PKD Care Team Grant from the same foundation, in January 2024?

This prestigious label has been awarded to centers that have shown excellence in caring for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) patients by providing a multidisciplinary platform for all aspects of care for ADPKD, but also participate in groundbreaking research projects that have changed and will continue to elevate the standards of care for ADPKD.

The Polycystic Kidney Diseases Center of Excellence at Emory has been part of almost all landmark trials in ADPKD since 2000, including the CRISP cohort, TEMPO 3:4 and REPRISE trials, and HALT-PKD trials. Congratulations to all those involved in this outstanding effort including the Center's Director Frederic Rahbari Oskoui, MD (Clifton), the physicians active in this work including Marc Saad, MD (Clifton), and Dilini Daswatta, DO (MOT), Donique Cumberbatch, LPN, the group's new Nurse/Navigator who will be the main point of contact for all PKD patients including new referrals and finally: Zohreh Forghani, their clinical research coordinator for the past seven years.

Phillip Anjum, Emory IM Resident, short film highlights the diversity and the complexities of medical school

Congratulations to Emory IM resident, Phil Anjum, MD, who created and directed a short film inspired by his experience in medical school at Ohio State University College of Medicine. In a recent interview with The Columbus Dispatch, Dr. Anjum shared more on the inspiration and visions for the film, and how it all came together.

About "A Place For Us"
The film explores the often-overlooked emotional and ethical challenges faced by medical trainees. Set against a backdrop of social and political unrest, A Place For Us delves into themes of identity, belonging, and the cultivation of humanity within the rigorous demands of healthcare education. Director Phil Anjum's goal was to shed light on how medical students develop resilience and strength, vital traits for their future roles as compassionate caregivers. In addition to its focus on medical education, the film examines evolving concepts of masculinity and intimacy within the healthcare setting. It advocates for self-love and confidence as essential qualities for effective and empathetic medical practice.
