FACULTY DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCEMENTSDOM Clinical Distinctions nomination period closes this Friday The Clinical Distinctions (CD) designation program is an annual School of Medicine program designed to recognize faculty who have devoted a majority of their time and careers to providing excellence in clinical care. Distinctions are awarded at three levels: Senior Physician, Distinguished Physician, and Eminent Physician. Program guidelines, distinction criteria, and required supporting documents may be found here. Please contact your Division Director or Division Administrator if you are interested in being nominated. Divisions must submit names of nominees in each category to the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) by Friday, July 12. As part of your nomination, you will need an updated CV in the proper SOM template. Learn how to easily move your CV into the current SOM template by watching the Emory SOM CV Fillable Template Instruction video. Approved Clinical Distinctions take effect September 1, 2025. DOM Virtual CV Review Session DOM faculty members are invited to register for the virtual CV Review Session on August 14 from 4–6 p.m. This session provides participating faculty with individualized advice on their progress toward promotion from a member of the department's Faculty Development Promotion and Tenure Committee. This committee is responsible for reviewing all senior-level promotion packets within the department and offers valuable advice to faculty members about their path to promotion to associate professor or professor. Reminder: Career Conference and Performance Review Deadline The School of Medicine is dedicated to sustaining and facilitating the career development of its faculty in scholarship, teaching, and professional service. Maintaining and developing each faculty member's professional engagement throughout his or her career is a high priority for the school. This review is based on performance in the areas of teaching scholarship, and service. The Department of Medicine’s internal deadline for completion of faculty Career Conference and Performance Review (CCPR) evaluations is August 31, 2024. Each pathway is divided by career year(s) into best practices and academic mission areas: Clinical Educator and Service: Clinical Investigator: Research Scientist: DOM ANNOUNCEMENTSDOM physicians represented in 2024 ‘Top Doctors’ list Emory physicians once again lead in being recognized in Atlanta magazine’s 2024 “Top Doctors” issue. Physicians within Emory Healthcare, Emory Healthcare Network, Emory medical staff, and faculty and adjunct faculty of Emory University School of Medicine comprise 40% of the list. This year, 495 Emory physicians made the “Top Doctors” list out of 1,235 physicians named in the publication ─ with more Emory physicians named in the listing than any other healthcare system in metro Atlanta. Of these 495 Emory physicians, 31 are Department of Medicine faculty members. As we say goodbye to an incredible group of trainees over the last few weeks, we are thrilled to welcome our newest fellows who started on Monday, July 1. This week, our fellowship programs are hosting orientation and welcome events for our 50+ newest DOM members. Please join us in welcoming them to the Department of Medicine family! Across our many fellowship programs, trainees, leaders, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate this momentous achievement in these physicians' medical training. We thank the Class of 2024 for their time spent with us, and look forward to witnessing the great achievements and success they will have as they take the next steps in their careers! Did you know that the Division of Renal Medicine's Polycystic Disease Center for Excellence at Emory was awarded the official label of Polycystic Kidney Disease Center of Excellence in January 2023 by The PKD Foundation, and more recently received a PKD Care Team Grant from the same foundation, in January 2024? This prestigious label has been awarded to centers that have shown excellence in caring for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) patients by providing a multidisciplinary platform for all aspects of care for ADPKD, but also participate in groundbreaking research projects that have changed and will continue to elevate the standards of care for ADPKD. The Polycystic Kidney Diseases Center of Excellence at Emory has been part of almost all landmark trials in ADPKD since 2000, including the CRISP cohort, TEMPO 3:4 and REPRISE trials, and HALT-PKD trials. Congratulations to all those involved in this outstanding effort including the Center's Director Frederic Rahbari Oskoui, MD (Clifton), the physicians active in this work including Marc Saad, MD (Clifton), and Dilini Daswatta, DO (MOT), Donique Cumberbatch, LPN, the group's new Nurse/Navigator who will be the main point of contact for all PKD patients including new referrals and finally: Zohreh Forghani, their clinical research coordinator for the past seven years. DOM Honors & Recognitions Congratulations to Tracey Henry, MD, (General Internal Medicine) for being named a 2024–2025 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Fellow. Beginning in September, Dr. Henry will be one of seven health professionals spending a year in Washington, D.C., working on health-related legislative and regulatory issues with members of Congress and the executive branch. Dana DaCosta (Renal Medicine), Research Lab Manager for the Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory (Park Lab) at Emory University, received the 2024 Atlanta VA Lab Manager of the Year Award. Congratulations! Each year, the Emory School of Medicine House Staff Organization (HSO) hosts the House Staff Organization Professionalism Excellence (HOPE) Award to recognize residents and fellows who excel in working with their colleagues across specialties and in delivering patient care. In Case You Missed It: In case you missed it, Kimberly Manning, MD, (General Internal Medicine), was featured on a LIVE episode of The Curbsiders TEACH podcast, the internal medicine podcast for all things medical education! In this episode, Dr. Manning discusses her leadership journey, tips for budding leaders in health professions education with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and how to stay grounded and vulnerable in the process of being a humanistic leader. Phillip Anjum, Emory IM Resident, short film highlights the diversity and the complexities of medical school Congratulations to Emory IM resident, Phil Anjum, MD, who created and directed a short film inspired by his experience in medical school at Ohio State University College of Medicine. In a recent interview with The Columbus Dispatch, Dr. Anjum shared more on the inspiration and visions for the film, and how it all came together. About "A Place For Us" STAFF NEWSMeet Chelsea, Research Regulatory Specialist and Clinical Research Coordinator IV in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine! In this spotlight, Chelsea shares her personal and professional background that led her to work in clinical research. Before joining Emory, she worked at the Marcus Autism Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in autism research. This experience along with her interest in family systems, mental health, and knowledge in research coordination, led her to focus her career on research regulations and training research staff. Now at Emory, she supports the RADx Tech studies and supports investigators interested in starting studies within the PACCSM division. Read the full interview below!
