No images? Click here This fortnight has been yet another busy time. As we near the closing weeks for Term 3, we have had the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our students and prepare our senior students for their next chapter in their learning. Recently some of our HSC students have successfully completed the practical components of their courses and have had them marked by external HSC markers. Congratulations to our Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Language, Electronics, Design and Technology and Textiles and Design and IT Wood students on this achievement. Their work has been a credit to both themselves and their teachers. Further HSC practical works were showcased on Wednesday evening, 7 September 2022, at our Plugged, Painted and Planed event, where works from Music, IT Wood and Visual Arts were on display. Our HSC graduation assembly will be held in the school MPC at 9.30am on Thursday 22 September. We welcome the opportunity to meet with family members to celebrate Year 12 students’ thirteen years of schooling and all that this has encompassed. One student of particular mention is Jasmine O’Brien; this week Jasmine’s excellence in all areas of her education has been recognised with her being presented a prestigious Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement. Jasmine has been an exceptional role model for her peers. She is very talented and has enjoyed success academically, on the sporting field and culturally, as a musician. A selfless young lady, Jasmine is ethically invested, a SRC member and School Captain, demonstrating the highest personal standards, and an outstanding ambassador for public education. We would like to congratulate Jasmine on this outstanding achievement. As this Year 12 focus on their HSC preparation, our next group of school leaders are stepping up to fill their roles. We have ten worthy students nominating to be School Captains for 2022/2023. We look forward to hearing their speeches to the student body following their examinations. Staff and students will then vote for their elected School Captains and Vice Captains, with the announcement being made at our Year 12 Graduation assembly. Elections will be held for House Captains and SRC at the same time. We commend all our students for having the courage to step up, present themselves to their peers and represent our school. Good luck to all those nominated. In addition to the Year 12 Graduation assembly and in the spirit of celebrating success, a reminder that our School Cup Assembly for the term will be held on Tuesday 20 September. Parents and community members are welcome to both events. We look forward to celebrating with you. CHHS School SocialOn Wednesday night we held the first school social event in FIVE years!! It was so much fun to be able to dance and let our hair out again, and we can't wait to have more socials in the future! Make sure you don't miss out next time! A huge thanks to the SRC students who ran the kitchen, the staff who volunteered their time to help out, and to local DJ Jimmy Lang. 2022 Accelerated Academic ProgramThis year an Accelerated Academic Program was implemented for 15 high achieving students in Year 10. It has been a busy year developing the program with the aim for the students to gain valuable insight into the standards, expectations and work ethic required to achieve success in HSC. The weekly lessons provided students with knowledge and skills for an effective transition to senior schooling, with some fun along the way. Bronze and Silver School Cup AwardsDuring the Week 8 Year Meetings this week, students who had received enough points were awarded either a Bronze or Silver School Cup Award from their Year Adviser. CHALC Work ExperienceTerm 3 has brought along new opportunities for the CHALC students to try different workplaces for their work experience. After talking to employers and conducting workplace visits this week, I was so impressed seeing our students out in the workplace. They are hardworking and certainly demonstrate the school values of Respect, Responsibility and Doing Your Best. The students continue to demonstrate excellent skills in the workplace and some of our students have already been offered Traineeships so there will be exciting times ahead.
