The Year 12 Formal was a great success with all those in attendance having an enjoyable evening. The students all looked amazing and the memento of an Autograph Book, made for each of them by Year Advisor, Mrs Graham, was very thoughtful. It was great to see them being supported by family and partners to celebrate the completion of their formal years of schooling. Congratulations to the Class of 2022.
Congratulations to our school leaders; Erin and Bailey, James and Liam who attended the Remembrance Day Services at Kendall and Laurieton, representing the school and laying wreaths on behalf of all students. It was a day for us all to think and reflect on past wars and conflicts and how they have impacted life in Australia; a time for us all to be very thankful for the sacrifices made by our service personnel across the years and grateful for the lifestyle we enjoy in this country.
Year 9 students have been enjoying themselves this week in Queensland on their annual excursion, with Year 10 students undertaking the same excursion next week, postponed from 2021. Year 11 Hospitality students have also been on the Gold Coast at Seaworld Resort participating in a range of activities from front of house, waitressing, kitchen duties and housekeeping. They were dressing up for the Couture High Tea at Palazzo Versace and visiting KooKoo Teppanyaki for a Japanese cuisine experience. New and exciting first time ventures will be very exciting for both the students and staff.
Students in Year 10 are participating in planned activities over the next five weeks, with some in paid employment or work experience and those at school preparing for life as a senior student with intensive workshops being delivered by a range of teachers to develop and build on basic skills they will need to be successful in their learning over the next two years.
Year 6 transition day is Tuesday 29 November and only students who have completed the enrolment process with all required documentation will be permitted to attend on the day. Everything is well planned, and students should look forward to an exciting and informative day. The Parent Information Evening begins at 5.00pm in the MPC. Unfortunately the Uniform Shop will only be open for normal operating hours on this day - 8.30am to 11.30am.
Also on the same day a Girls in STEM Breakfast sponsored by Surfing Australia and ACCIONA will be held in the STEM room. Guests on the day will be distance education student, Quincy Symonds, Acciona Representative, Isobel Nichols World#10 Pro Surfer and Engineering student, as well as Samantha Kirkwood, Research Engineer High Earth Orbit Robotic, former student and 2015 Dux. Students from primary feeder schools and girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 are all invited to attend the event.
A reminder that attendance at school is compulsory and the last day for students this year is Friday 16 December. Any absences should be explained within seven days and if students need to have a partial absence, a note must be brought to the HT Administration, Mr Stewart, before school.
In planning and preparing for the new year, the school has ordered book packs for every student from Year 7 to Year 12. The pack for Year 7 will include a calculator. All packs will be distributed at year meetings during the first two days next year.

Interact Fundraiser for Wauchope Hospital

Last term, CHHS Interact hosted a music-themed fundraiser to raise money to purchase radios for Wauchope Hospital’s rehabilitation unit. Wauchope Hospital Rehabilitation unit is the only publicly funded rehabilitation facility in our area and needed some entertainment options for patients to help them on their road to recovery. Nine radios were purchased from the fundraising efforts and these were presented at assembly to Nez, the Nursing Unit Manager representing Wauchope Hospital, and Sharon who was representing the Mid North Coast Local Health District.

The Perfect Presence Program

For the last thirteen weeks, six students from Years 8-10 have been involved in the Perfect Presence Program run at the school by mentors, Lisa Evans and Katrina Hall, from Mid North Coast Community College. The program, which aims to improve attendance by engaging students, focuses on building relationships, teamwork, and goal setting.  A student directed team project was part of the final event, and this year’s group of students agreed to create a mosaic and present it to the senior executive and guests during a barbeque on Tuesday afternoon last week.
Katrina said of the students, “They have created an amazing mural at the outdoor classroom and they should be so proud of the effort they have put into planning and creating something the school will also be proud of! It was so fantastic having all the teachers tell us about the improvements they have seen within the students. We are proud of how much they have grown”.
The program wraps up next week.

Single Course Day for Year 12 Language Students

On Monday 7 November our students who study via Distance Education had the opportunity to meet their teachers for an intensive face to face session at Camden Haven High School.
The days started with a HSC session for all the students, filled with information and valuable tips. After that, students were divided into language groups and attended their Japanese, Spanish and Italian lessons. The group sessions were dedicated to HSC preparations and interaction in foreign languages. There was a lot of practice, various games and activities which brought a lot of positive energy. The best part of the day was the International Feast with amazing Italian, Spanish and Japanese food, snacks, and dessert, where all the students could meet and share their experiences. We were happy to hear that so many of our students are sharing our great passion for the languages. There are several students who are planning to continue their adventure with foreign languages after finishing high school. Some people want to travel, others think about taking a gap year for work and travel or plan to study languages at university.
The language faculty is looking forward to work with them to provide them with the greatest support in their learning journey.

News from Bellingen Learning Hub

By Sigrid Van Dam DE Coordinator
Here we are in Week 6 of Term 4, and oh how the year has flown! I currently have two regular students attending the Hub, Charlotte and Quinton. Kyra from Dorrigo has not been able to come this term due to family commitments and difficulty scheduling times. She has still been able to keep up with her work and manages a part-time job whilst volunteering at a childcare centre.
Quinton has focused on PDHPE and Mathematics whilst at the Hub. He is able to manage his other subjects at home.
Charlotte has taken advantage of the Hub hours and usually stays for 4-5 hours, completing up to 7 or 8 learning activities which is a great result. She tries hard to balance the work load by completing an equal number of pieces of work from each subject. She has a part-time job at the Dorrigo Rainforest Café, a couple of shifts a week. Charlotte also loves to ride her horse at Pony Club on weekends. She saves all her money to spend on her horse’s requirements.
Last Monday Charlotte and I visited the Bellingen Gelato Bar for an hour as a small excursion. Quinton was invited, but unfortunately he wasn’t well and unable to attend. We both had a double scoop of gelato and a pot of Chai Latte each. It was a lovely day for it and Charlotte really appreciated it. We also managed to have an interesting conversation, not necessarily about school work.
Here is a photo of Charlotte at the gelato shop, displaying our yummy feast!

Joslyn in Rymarine Program

Joslyn is a Year 10 Distance Education student. Recently she gave a presentation to the Rotary Club of Gunnedah West who sponsored her to attend the wonderful Rymarine program in Coffs Harbour from the 13-16 October 2022. This program aims to develop a special interest in marine biology, related sciences, and technologies. The program provides hands on experience in dealing with marine animals and plants. Rymarine challenges students in an educational environment emphasising the necessity for diligence in study which will lead to rewarding careers, offering students a career path that they may not have considered.
Joslyn gave a wonderful presentation that was well received and enjoyed by all who were in attendance. She presented so well that she was also asked if they could nominate her for the Leadership Awards in 2024 which will put her in a leadership program running over the week of the awards. This was Joslyn’s first time getting up in front of people to give a presentation (20 people, and all distinguished businessmen and women).
