Shieh, here on a residency supported by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan. May also sees residencies for the Glasgow-based writer Kirsty Crawford and the textile artist Erin McQuarrie. The writer Rodge Glass returns to
Cove Park in May. Rodge is a former resident, Cove Park Associate and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde. His eight-week residency is made possible through a Creative Scotland Open Fund for Individuals. This month's Independently Funded programme hosts artists from Canada, England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Scotland, and includes the founders of Arika, Barry Esson and Bryony McIntyre, cultural
anthropologist and writer Justin Armstrong, poet Claudia Berghorn, costume designer and curator Sabrina Henry, writer and Associate Alison Irvine, writer Fiona Linday, artist and sound therapist Flora Litchfield, visual artist Miranda Vissers, and producer, curator, and walker Claudia Zeiske. Three group residencies have taken place this month. 'Migration and Racialization' was made possible through a British Academy award to researchers Hannah Proctor and Akshi Singh. We were also pleased to host 14
researchers connected to the Environmental Humanities PhD Research Lab, and landscape architects and collaborators Anna Reid, Anna Rhodes, and Milja Tuomivaara. We are delighted to welcome a new member of the team to Cove Park. The
Glasgow-based artist and art technician Thom Rees has joined us as Site Manager, with responsibility for the development of our 50-acre site and facilities. A graduate of the University of Brighton and Glasgow School of Art, Thom's experience will also be invaluable in supporting our residents with studio-based practices. The Bridge Awards ResidencyWe are pleased to announce that The Bridge Awards Residency has been awarded to the Scotland-based Danish artist Susanne Nørregård Nielsen. Susanne's current work investigates the influence of textiles on early 20th century visual art, in particular abstract painting with a focus on Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s practice. Newly launched in 2023, this is a two-week
residency for an artist based in Scotland whose career has been impacted by a breast cancer diagnosis. The aim is to provide the artist with the time and space required to reconnect with their practice. We are grateful to The Bridge Awards for supporting this residency, and to the cancer support charity Maggie's for their help. Mophradat Art Time Residency
Sido LansariCove Park is pleased to be working in partnership with Mophradat this year to provide a residency for a visual artist from the Arab world. The residency is designed to allow the artist to spend focused time working on a project or researching new ideas. Following an open call for applications, we can announce the residency has been awarded to Sido Lansari, a
multidisciplinary artist born in Morocco and currently based in Lyon. We look forward to welcoming Sido here for three weeks in October 2023. Mophradat creates opportunities for artists from the Arab world through an inventive approach to funding, commissioning, collaborating, and gathering. SGSAH Residencies 2023May sees the launch of a series of residencies awarded to PhD students of the 17 Scottish academic institutions connected to the Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities. These residencies support creative practice and provide time for the students to develop their doctoral work. We are delighted to welcome Victoria Evans to Cove Park this month, the first of the 10 students participating in the programme this year. International Writers Residency 2023We are pleased to announce that the Cove Park/Varuna International Writers Residencies in 2023 have been awarded to author and former Cove Park resident Jan Carson, and to the writer, poet, and academic Jeanine Leane. Jeanine, a Wiradjuri writer based in New South Wales, will travel to Cove Park for a four week residency in August this year. Jan, based
in Northern Ireland, will travel to Varuna, the National Writers' House, Australia, for four weeks during the autumn. Young Gaelic Writer Residency 2023Now in its second year, the Young Gaelic Writer Residency is a fully funded residency for Gaelic writers aged between 18 and 30. This two-week residency will take place from Monday 4 September to Sunday 17 September 2023, and the resident will receive a fee, a travel and research allowance, and one-to-one bespoke mentoring with an established Gaelic writer. Rody Gorman at Cove Park
Friday 2 June 2023Join us and colleagues from CHARTS (Culture, Heritage, Arts Argyll & Isles) on Friday 2 June for readings from the Irish-born poet, author, and former Cove Park resident Rody Gorman. Rody will read from his forthcoming book Sweeney: An Intertonguing, a new translation in verse and prose of the mediaeval epic Buile Shuibhne/The Frenzy of Sweeney in English, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.
The evening includes readings, music, and refreshments. This free event has a limited capacity of 40 guests. Please register here to secure your free place.

ViceVersa Translation Workshop
13-19 November 2023We are delighted to host in November this year the ViceVersa Translation Workshop for literary translators from English to German and German to English. Five translators working in each direction will have an opportunity to present and discuss the specific texts they are working on. This one-week workshop will be led by Katy Derbyshire and Tanja Handels. More information on the programme and how to apply is available here. Announcing Project StudioWe are excited to announce Project Studio, a new Cove Park programme made possible with a generous award from the National Lottery Community Fund. Project Studio is for teenagers in our local community, and includes free monthly creative activity - including workshops, trips, and events - centred around self-expression and creating community for teenagers interested in the arts,
activism, environmentalism, and wellbeing. This programme will take place in venues in Helensburgh, and will run from June to the late autumn this year. If you are aged between 13 and 16, and live in the catchment area for Hermitage Academy, please come along to our first launch session on Tuesday 6 June, from 4-6pm, at the Park Pavilion Café, Hermitage Park.
