DOM ANNOUNCEMENTS

Now Open: 2024 School of Medicine Engagement Survey

Beginning today, Monday, August 5, and continuing until August 26, the SOM, in partnership with Press Ganey, will survey faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows on their employee experience. You should have received an email this morning with your unique survey link from Press Ganey <noreply@surveys.pressganey.com>.

You may take the survey by clicking the secure link at the bottom of that email, and it should take less than five minutes to complete. All School of Medicine employees will receive the same core questions, regardless of where they work. Physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses will receive additional questions related to their care environment. If there are questions you feel do not apply to you, please feel free to leave them blank or select N/A for not applicable.

Responses will remain 100 percent confidential and go directly to Press Ganey. Leadership will be provided with overall scores only if a unit/department has three or more participants, and there will be no way to connect responses to the participants.

We sincerely hope you will take a few minutes to share your feedback. Please make your thoughts heard by completing your survey by Monday, August 26. The DOM hopes for 100% participation in this survey!

Media Opportunities 101

If the media contacts you for an interview related to your field of expertise, it’s important to loop in a member of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) media team. By doing so, you’ll have support related to interview logistics, briefing sheets, and/or media training.

The media relations team strives to ensure you are fully prepared to engage with the media, as well as position Emory as a leader in both health sciences research and clinical work. The WHSC team has pulled together a step-by-step guide outlining the process and timeline of working with them on media requests.

STEP 1: Once you receive an interview request or inquiry from the media, first forward it to Brian Katzowitz, AVP of communications for WHSC, and Georgia Parmelee, Director of WHSC media relations, as soon as possible. Be sure to copy Sarah Jones as well.

In Case You Missed It: Annual Southeast Review and Update on Medical Care of Older Adults

On July 19 and 20, Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Medicine’s Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology held the 7th Annual Southeast Review and Update on Medical Care of Older Adults in Atlanta. This conference brought together a vibrant and diverse group of healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, internal medicine and geriatric specialists, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, and hospice and palliative medicine experts, with the farthest participant traveling from Puerto Rico!

This year’s conference covered a broad spectrum of vital topics to address the multifaceted challenges faced by today’s elderly patients. Sessions ranged from discussions on ocular health to bladder care, along with crucial updates on vaccination guidelines and the highs and lows of blood pressure.

“We were particularly proud of the significant involvement of Emory’s Department of Medicine, especially the Division of Geriatric Gerontology. Our esteemed faculty and dedicated trainees not only attended but also actively contributed as presenters, sharing their expertise and research with peers from across the region.”—Fariha Sultan, MD, Assistant Professor, Geriatrics and Gerontology
