They were the ones where we went deeper and shared the practical and technical thinking behind what we’re building and why it matters. In this newsletter, we are revisiting some stories – among many – that shaped our conversations across maritime, renewables, and oil and gas last year. Alternative fuels and the human elementOur webinar series have gained traction last year, with topics ranging from mental health to decarbonisation. Our "Decarbonising Maritime – Alternative Fuels and the Human Element" webinar was a thought-provoking discussion that brought together regulatory leaders, shipping experts, and academics to explore how alternative fuels and human behaviour are reshaping the future of maritime sustainability (as summarised by Per Larsen and Dr Joanna-Eugenia Bakouni.) Future-ready competence for methanol and jacking operationsAs the offshore industry continues to accelerate toward greener and more advanced operations, Van Oord is preparing its crews for methanol-fuelled and jacking operations. We are proud to stand alongside our customers as they take this important step toward safer and more sustainable offshore operations. Real equipment, real scenarios, real decisionsIndustry publication, the IADC Drilling Contractor, featured our work with Weatherford on Managed Pressure Drilling. This piece includes insights from Weatherford's VP of MPD, Zac Mahlum, along with our own Guilherme Silveira and Andrew Galbreath. Training leaders for crisesAt the F24 Nordics Forum last year, Knut Egil Sæther tackled the question: "How do you train top management to manage crises?" He shared how we prepare executives to make high-stakes decisions when everything's moving fast and the pressure's on. It's not about eliminating chaos. It's about knowing what to do when you're in the middle of it. Transforming offshore crane operations in BrazilWhen small errors can have serious consequences, this kind of training isn't optional. We launched the Crane Operator Development Program with Constellation Oil Services. The first of its kind in Brazil. Valber Godoy shared: "Our team was able to experience challenges without risks, which reduced errors, accelerated learning, and brought clear gains in confidence, decision-making, and teamwork – further strengthening our culture of safety and excellence.” Global standards in renewablesIn 2025, over 600,000 GWO courses were completed in more than 35 countries across the globe. The challenge? Making sure the skills someone learns in Denmark work exactly the same way in Brazil, Japan, or the UK. Ian Noble, our L&D Manager for Renewables, wrote about why global training needs to be transferable, effective, and culturally attuned all at once. Building skills that support a safer energy transitionOur first GWO High Voltage Cable Pulling course in Esbjerg went live in August. We helped develop this course, and now it’s building the skills that support a safer energy transition. Looking for a specific course to match your needs?
