Our submission to the Offshore Wind consultation process acknowledges that offshore wind can generate the power required to replace end-of-life coal-fired power stations by 2035; deliver a reliable power supply in the required timeframe; and help to decarbonise the future regional economy. However, as a newly regulated industry there are issues that need to be transparently resolved and RDA Illawarra believes that the fifteen recommendations made in its submission will enhance community engagement, acceptance and ease implementation. Read our full submission here. New analysis on the region's housing shortfallNew RDA Illawarra analysis estimates that the Illawarra region will face a shortfall of up to 13,000 dwellings by 2041. This shortfall is
predicted as a reflection of the worsening completion rates of Illawarra housing. The Illawarra’s ability to turn approved Development Applications (DA’s) into completed dwellings is worsening, with only 79% of approvals becoming actual liveable dwellings over the last 10 years. Industry Growth Program advisory service The Australian Government, Department of Industry, Science and Resources Industry Growth Program is officially open for business. Start-ups and innovative small-to-medium businesses can now apply for expert advice on getting their ideas to market. Read more and apply to participate here. ![]() LIP Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum The Leadership Illawarra Program’s Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum on 28 November at UOW's Sustainable Buildings Research Centre featured presentations by UOW's Ty Christopher and Dr Clayton McDowell. The insightful presentations explored UOW's sustainability initiatives, and the goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Different energy solutions were explained including solar, offshore wind, onshore wind, hydrogen and nuclear and the advantages and disadvantages of each, making the complex topic accessible for everyone. A panel discussion followed, with questions from the LIP and alumni in attendance, providing the chance for deeper exploration of the groups burning questions and reinforcing the role individuals can play in championing sustainability in their workplaces and homes. Electronic Vehicle Grants now available For the first time, Wollongong businesses, as well as all other Illawarra LGA's are eligible to apply for grants to install Electronic Vehicle (EV) chargers for customers. This opportunity is particularly suited to hotels/motels, clubs/sporting venues, restaurants, tour operators, transport services.
