Public Consultation on Sustainable Healthcare Module

Environmental changes are impacting health and healthcare services globally. Providing sustainable health care is becoming a central feature in designing new facilities or upgrades, in supply chain management and in waste management.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) recognises the importance of healthcare services being sustainable, adaptable and resilient. To reduce the impact and build climate resilience, the Commission has developed a Sustainable Healthcare Module (the Module).

The Module was developed in collaboration with experts from both health care and environmental health. The Module contains five (5) actions which will support healthcare services to include sustainability measures and targets when setting priorities and strategies. It is designed to support improvements in the safety and quality of health care, reduce waste and drive reductions in low value care and unwarranted variation across the healthcare system.

The Module focuses on resilience, mitigation and adaption of healthcare services.

You are invited to comment on the Module’s applicability, content and appropriateness to the health sector.

How can you have your say?
You can access the Module for consultation on our website and provide feedback by:

  • Responding to a short online survey
  • Providing a written submission via email to NSQHSStandards@safetyandquality.gov.au

Consultation will close on 31 January 2023.
