Register your place for Vision: 2025's 9th edition of the Sustainable Events Summit, at The Showman's Show on Wednesday 23rd October 2024.

This free-to-attend summit will bring outdoor event organisers, festival professionals, suppliers, local authorities and sustainability experts together, to reflect on the summer, defining future strategies and actions to shape the industry response to the climate emergency for UK events.

To be pioneering in our response to the climate crisis, as an industry we need a clear vision, benchmarks to understand progress, practical clear solutions, and support from beyond our sector, particularly government.

Over the next nine months, Vision: 2025 is bringing the industry together to produce the third edition 'State of the Industry' report, a vision for beyond 2025, which will help build a case for government support. We need everyone to take part.

Vision: 2025 News - NATIONAL GREEN CODE SUSTAINABILITY PILOT INCLUDES OVER 60 DIVERSE EVENTS AND FESTIVALS

An update on the Green Events Code of Practice (GECoP): Julie's Bicycle, host of Event Vision: 2025, is collaborating with 10 local authorities and more than 60 festivals this event season to test how the Green Events Code of Practice (GECoP) can be adopted nationally.

In December 2024, following the pilot, a report will be published on the variety of ways the code has been put into practice along with an outline for a pathway to national adoption. Tanya is the Co-Creative Director of Festival of Thrift & has worked in the performing arts sector for over 20 years. Since 2012, Festival of Thrift has led the national festival of sustainable living, attracting up to 30,000 – 50,000 people each year.

Festival of Thrift is transitioning into a vibrant and multi-faceted arts & sustainability organisation with a year-round programme of projects & events that impact positively on people’s lives. Sustainability is front and centre of Festival of Thrift's programme and in this Q&A Tanya shares her personal and professional journey in sustainable events. HERE

Guest blog: Rowan Barnes at Material Focus on Tackling Vapes and Electrical Waste at Events

The rise in disposable vapes is the thorn in the side of effective festival waste management and circular economy initiatives. It's the latest sustainability challenge to crop up as part of the ongoing single-use plastic saga. In this guest blog, Rowan Barnes, Projects Coordinator at Material Focus, shares insights into the problems and what event organisers can do to tackle them. Resource Spotlight: More than Music Report, edition 2

Sustainable-impact agency betternotstop, has published the latest edition of its ‘More Than Music’ report into music festivals and sustainability. Of the 100 festivals featured in the 2024 report:

  • 46% have a publicly available sustainability policy
  • 31% have publicly available carbon measures
  • 22% have measures to offset the carbon costs of audience travel
  • 26% are reducing or changing their fuel usage and 25% are working with renewable energy.
  • 14% of festivals showed no sustainability actions or data on their websites at all.
