It has just been National Reconciliation Week, #NRW2020, with the theme #InThisTogether. This theme has become relevant and important in ways we could not perceive

Reconciliation is about reflecting on the impacts of colonisation and understanding how we can come together to progress the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal peoples.

The unique demographics of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) population in WA are accompanied by a range of cultural, social and psycho-social factors that can impact the risk of injury.

See the new Know Injury resource on Injury Prevention in CaLD communities and learn about what influences the risk of injury and effective strategies to reduce the prevalence in Western Australia.

READ | Childhood Injuries within the Home

Many of us are spending more and more time at home throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. 

According to Kidsafe WA’s Childhood Injury Report, Injuries within the Home, over a 10 year period from 2008 to 2018, the majority (63%) of injuries within the home occurred in children under five years. The leading causes of childhood injuries in the home were from falls, blunt forces, and burns and scalds.

Join Injury Matters for the “Injury Prevention in Public Health Planning webinar”.  A presentation will be provided by Jennifer Hughes, Health and Local Government Coordinator at Injury Matters, Peter Erceg, Health Promotion Coordinator and Hayley Bullock, Health Promotion Officer from South Metropolitan Health Service and Russell Cox, Community Development Officer- Recreation and Inclusion at the City of Kwinana.

The webinar will provide insight into how Local Governments and Area Health Services can work collaboratively to develop their localised public health plans and the importance of including injury prevention and safety promotion in public health planning.

The Draft National Injury Prevention Strategy 2020-2030 is open for public consultation until 19 June 2020. The Strategy aims to create a national focus on injuries and their prevention, and takes a broad approach to address all ages and population groups. Have your say below!

Expressions of Interest for the Remove Hazards round of Stay On Your Feet® Move Improve Remove grants have been extended until 19 June.

Grants up to $5,000 (plus GST) are available and will fund projects running between 1 September and 30 November 2020.
