Under the governance of the College Board, the leadership at the College has also been looking back on our achievements while working to establish clear pathways for future improvement. This has resulted in an updated Strategic Plan for 2025-2027 with the six components of: ‘Christian Faith and Mission’, ‘Excellence in Teaching and Learning’, ‘Pastoral Care and Wellbeing’, ‘Stewardship and Sustainability’, ‘Governance’ and ‘Community and Partnerships’. Mother’s Day Breakfast Thank you to the incredible mums and mother-figures that shared with us in our recent Mother’s Day Breakfast. It was a privilege to spend time with you all and to listen to stories about motherhood from our speaker Anna Rodgers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a resounding success, including the wonderful staff at our Beedawong Cafeteria. Community Open Day I am thrilled to announce that Kennedy Baptist College will be hosting our Community Open Day on Saturday 23 August from 11.00am to 3.00pm. This day provides an invaluable opportunity for current community members and prospective families to explore our vibrant campus, engage with our dedicated faculty and gain insights into the rich educational experience we offer. We ask all current parents to spread the word and invite friends and family to join us on this special day. Following their meeting last week, the Parents and Friends Association are already hard at work planning for the Open Day. There are still many opportunities for parents to help and if you were unable to make this meeting, I encourage you to reach out to the Association to offer your support. We extend our gratitude to all those involved in the preparation of this important community event. Our Mother’s Day Breakfast and Community Open Day are both excellent ways in which our College is embracing the strategic focus of ‘Community and Partnerships’. I encourage all families to look out for and attend any upcoming events that help make our community stronger, including tonight's Kennedy Insight Parent Forum, tomorrow’s Interhouse Cross Country and the first Pedal Prix Race of the year this Sunday. Mr Mark Ashby Chaplain Chats![]() In all things, “Do to others as you would have them do to you”. This verse is commonly known as the Golden Rule. Why is it that we call this verse the Golden Rule? Of all the guidelines, recommendations, rules and laws there are to follow, if this one rule were completely abided by every person, we would experience a human world that would resonate within every person everywhere. You could even describe it as ‘Heaven on Earth’. At the risk of being seen to challenge Jesus, I would like to point out a flaw in the Golden Rule. It is not so much a flaw in the rule, but in keeping it. Deep down, I know we are all aware of what this flaw could be… It’s me! Not just Peter Chase ‘me’, but every ‘ME’ on the earth. Our theme this term is looking at the greatest challenge humanity will ever face: the worship of self-interest. Regarding the Golden Rule, the ‘self’ is our guide in keeping the rule, “As YOU would have them do to YOU”. But SELF is also the reason it fails. I believe the Golden Rule is inherent within me. When I follow this principle, life around me and within me flows harmoniously. Others feel uplifted, express gratitude, deepen relationships, and foster a sense of community. However, selfish thoughts sometimes creep in and reveal a flaw in this ideal. In those moments, the individual self of Peter Chase, wonders when someone will consider me and treat me as they would themselves. At that point, I fail to uphold the Golden Rule; the flow ceases, and everything falls apart. The essence of Easter, Jesus' teachings, and God's profound power in a human life inspire me to maintain the Golden Rule consistently. Ultimately, embracing the Golden Rule enriches our lives and those around us, reminding us that kindness and empathy create a ripple effect of goodness in our communities. Luke 6:31 “Do to others as you would have them do to you”. Year 7 Report![]() It was encouraging to see so many Year 7 parents take the opportunity to engage with their child’s learning journey by joining us at the recent Parent-Teacher interviews. We appreciate your support in these events, as they play a vital role in building strong partnerships between home and school. It is always a moment of pride to see our students in their formal uniforms for the first time. The Year 7 cohort has set a commendable example through their consistent and respectful adherence to the College’s uniform guidelines. During last week’s extended form, we dedicated time to learning how to properly wear a tie, along with learning tips and tricks in caring for our formal uniform to continue wearing it proudly. Our first major event of the term was the ANZAC Day Assembly, where our newly appointed Student Councillors and House Captains were presented with their badges. The assembly was also a meaningful time of reflection, centred on the words of John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” We paid tribute to the sacrifice of those who have served our country and to those currently serving. Service is a cornerstone of the Kennedy ethos, and we are pleased to offer our students opportunities to embody this value through our continued partnership with Lakeside Seniors, where each Year 7 student will have the opportunity to serve during one of four morning teas hosted throughout the year. We challenged ourselves by reflecting on Romans 12:10: “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour.” A reminder to take a selfless and generous approach to relationships, focusing on the needs of others rather than self-promotion. Thank you all for another outstanding start of term that promises to be full of opportunities to extend ourselves as a student at Kennedy Baptist College. ![]() ![]() Year 8 Report![]() As Term 2 is now well under way, it’s been wonderful to see students carrying forward the strong sense of community built during camp at the end of Term 1. The bonds formed continue to grow as students support one another through the highs and lows of school life. I want to commend those who show resilience each day by encouraging a friend, persevering through a personal challenge, or simply choosing a positive attitude in the face of difficulty. We kicked off the term with one of our favourite Kennedy traditions - Pancakes with Pete. More than 300 pancakes were flipped and enjoyed as students gathered on the lawn to play giant games, connecting with one another. Our community spirit continues tomorrow with the Cross Country and Colour Run. We hope to see many families join us for what promises to be a joyful and memorable event. Looking ahead, students will have exciting opportunities to develop their skills and connect through upcoming events. Form Cup will take place during Extended Form in Weeks 5 and 6, featuring games, activities, and challenges where students can earn points for their Form. In Week 8, the Year 8 Public Speaking Competition will allow students to showcase their voice or support their friends who will compete. Speaking with clarity and confidence not only builds communication skills but is a key component of leadership. Students are encouraged to keep an eye on direct messages and notices to find out more about entry, topics and dates. As always, I am thankful for every parent/guardian’s ongoing partnership in nurturing and supporting your child’s growth. May we continue to seek wisdom from God as we journey together. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” - Proverbs 2:6. ![]() ![]() Year 9 Report![]() Year 9 students have made a strong and enthusiastic start to Term 2, presenting themselves with pride in their winter uniforms and reconnecting positively with their peers. The transition back into the school routine has been smooth, and the energy around the campus is a testament to their growing maturity and sense of community. This term our focus continues to centre on fostering kindness, strengthening our sense of community, and encouraging the development of personal identity. A significant milestone this term is the upcoming exam period in Weeks 5 and 6—the Year 9s first formal assessments. Understandably, this period can bring a range of emotions for students, from anticipation to anxiety. The pressures associated with academic performance can be challenging, and at times, these may also affect families at home. We encourage parents and carers to remain attentive to any signs that may suggest their child is feeling overwhelmed. These can include changes in sleep patterns, fluctuations in appetite, mood changes, or behaviour that seems out of character. Open communication and reassurance can make a meaningful difference during this time. To help students approach the exam period with confidence, the Research and Study Centre (RASC) will be delivering a targeted study skills session aimed at equipping students with effective strategies for revision, time management, and wellbeing. In addition, tutoring support is available through College staff for students who may benefit from further assistance in MESH subjects (Mathematics, English, Science, and Humanities). We extend our best wishes to all Year 9 students as they prepare for their assessments. With encouragement, belief in their capabilities, and the right support, we are confident they will face this challenge with resilience and determination. Most importantly, we hope students recognise the value of their effort and the personal growth that comes with embracing new challenges. Year 10 Report![]() Term 2 began a little quieter on campus as our Year 10 students were out in the community, fully immersed in their Work Experience placements. I had the pleasure of visiting several students in their workplaces and was impressed by their enthusiasm, maturity, independence and eagerness to engage with the ‘real world’. From veterinary clinics and engineering firms to schools, hospitals, recreation centres and trade sites, the range of placements was diverse and rewarding. Students shared a variety of experiences with some discovering the challenge of working full 8-hour days with limited breaks, others adjusting to new routines, work attire and the absence of familiar faces. Despite these challenges, one common highlight emerged: students felt valued as young adults, trusted with responsibilities and encouraged to explore potential career pathways. A huge thank you to Mr Ernesto Ramirez, our VET and Workplace Learning Coordinator, for his dedication and hard work in making this program possible for the Year 10 cohort. The recent Careers Expo, held alongside Parent-Teacher Interviews, gave students a valuable opportunity to explore future study and employment options through direct contact with representatives of Universities, Workplaces, Tafe Institutes and the Defence Force. Both Work Experience and the Expo served as timely preparation for upcoming subject selections for Year 11. Before the end of term, each Year 10 student will meet with a member of the Kennedy Executive Team to discuss their pathway for senior school. This is an exciting time for the students as they journey with independence in their transition to senior school. As our students look to the future, I am reminded of the verse from Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” What a wonderful reminder that God walks with us in every decision, and I pray our students will feel this guidance too. Thank you to all the families who attended the Year 10 Curriculum Evening on Tuesday 13 May. We hope you found the information helpful as you prepare for senior school subject selection. Your participation is greatly appreciated! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Year 11 Report![]() As we begin Term 2 it is hard to remember the amazing Year 11 camp, we experienced to finish off Term 1. We had a fantastic time down in Busselton, the students enjoying the relaxed nature that the camp provided. However, as we return to a shorter term, our focus switches to exams for our ATAR students and final semester assessments for our general students. This week, our Research and Study Centre (RASC) organised workshops for our students aimed at improving study skills, preparing for exams, promoting relaxation and stress reduction. Students were able to select the most appropriate workshop for themselves and were able to hear from experienced teachers and staff with tips on how to help at this time. A big thank you to Mrs Georgiou and the other staff members for their time and effort in providing these valuable sessions. As we finish the first semester, this time of year can be stressful and it is not uncommon for students to feel the pressure of their studies. We are grateful to have a great support team including Jess Plenty, our year group Psychologist and our Chaplain team of Peter Chase and Suzanne Warwick. Tutoring is also available after school for each subject and we encourage students to find availability and times with their teacher. Please contact me at the College if your child needs some more support or if I can send you in the right direction. I will be praying for the students to stay healthy, that their study may be effective and that they can focus on their preparation of exams and throughout their assessments. ![]() ![]() Year 12 Report![]() It has been a particularly busy period for our Year 12 students. Those enrolled in General Courses have completed their Externally Set Tasks (ESTs) this week, while ATAR students have been diligently preparing for mid-semester examinations and finalising assessment tasks. During Week 2 Extended Form, students engaged in activities designed to enhance their study habits. They created checklists to support their preparation for ESTs and exams and reflected on the value of using a structured study planner. Students who did not yet have a planner were guided through the process of developing one, while those with an existing planner participated in active study strategies. These included creating flashcards and mind maps to aid with revision and improve information retention. This term can be a particularly demanding time, so it is important that students prioritise their wellbeing. Maintaining a balanced diet, ensuring adequate rest, and adopting a structured approach to study can help reduce stress and support academic performance. It is recommended that Year 12 students aim for 8–10 hours of sleep per night. Late-night study sessions, especially beyond midnight, are discouraged. By adhering to a consistent study routine and managing their time effectively, students can achieve success while maintaining their overall health. For any student experiencing anxiety related to ESTs or exams and seeking support in developing effective coping strategies, our Year 12 Counsellor, Ms Jess Plenty, is available for appointments. Please contact me directly to arrange a meeting. The Kennedy students put on an impressive performance as they acted, danced, sang and spoke only by form of rhyming. The students at West Leeming had a wonderful time interacting with the performers, helping Cinderella when she couldn't see her Fairy Godmother, cheering when they saw someone good and high fiving the performers as they ran through the crowd. It was a great way for the College to connect with our local Primary Schools with an incredible collaboration from the Kennedy Drama staff, the Arts department helping with their wardrobe and the talents of the Year 10 Drama students. ![]() Year 9 Creative Writing IncursionOn Monday 5 May, the Year 9 Creative Writing class had an incursion with Night Parrot Press. The students discovered the world of flash fiction and were given the opportunity to create a story of their own in only 10 minutes! Flash fiction is a very short rendition of creative writing, containing between 10 to 1,000 words. It is a great way to start, and finish, a piece of writing. Many thanks to Laura and Night Parrot Press, as well as the RASC for hosting us. We hope to do it all again next year! ![]() Year 12 Drama Performance of 'The Twelfth Night'A huge thank you goes to Amanda Jean, Karen Billingham, Suzanne Smit and Fiona Elliott for their support and contribution to making the Year 12 Drama performance last Monday evening such a wonderful success. This rendition of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night was set with an 80s 'beach theme', a collaborative decision made between the students and staff. The dedication from the students lead them to learn all of their lines and rehearsing during their holidays. So much laughter was drawn from the audience, and overall, everyone enjoyed the experience. We are already looking forward to our Year 12 Performance nights on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 September, where individual and group pieces will be presented by our Dance, Drama and Music students as they prepare for their final performance exams. Year 10 to 11 Curriculum Information EveningOn Tuesday 13 May we held an Information Evening for Year 10 students and their parents to be informed about how Year 11 and 12 link to post-school destinations, unpacking the meaning behind ATAR, General, WACE and VET. We heard from Murdoch University, Notre Dame University, TAFE and the Defence Force about the various options and pathways to further study and employment pathways. Each Year 10 student will be invited to personal meetings with one of the Executive staff to discuss their choices for Year 11 2026. Parents are encouraged to attend with their child. Interviews will commence from June 12, with details to be sent to students and parents in the coming weeks. College NoticesHouse Day - Friday 16 MayWe are incredibly excited for our upcoming House Day that will take place tomorrow, Friday 16 May. This will be an action-packed day with great opportunities for our students to form bonds between different year groups. The three events that we are most looking forward to are the Vertical Form Activities, Arts Showcase, and the Interhouse Cross Country. Our Vertical Form Activities will take place throughout the day and are designed to improve interactions between our junior and senior school students, with different ages helping each other in values-based activities. The Arts Showcase during Period 2 is definitely the showpiece of the day and we can't wait to celebrate this broad Learning Area and witness the talents of our students. Finally, the Interhouse Cross Country concludes the House Day from Period 5 (approximately 12.30pm) onwards. Please come down and support your child as they compete in either a 3 kilometre race or in an epically colourful Lapathon. Please see the Interhouse Cross Country FAQs for more information.
