It's Back to the Future in tomorrow's war on talent
Although most commentators called the end of recession somewhere towards the end of 2009 it appears that the legal sector is still suffering from the after effects.
Hirers are struggling to find tomorrow's Associates and Partners and it's not just the 4-6 years PQE Group that are in short supply.
We could be 3 years in to a 10 year business cycle - meaning the good times are here to stay for a while yet - but the legal sector is in danger of missing the boat.
In recognition of last week's Back to Future Day, Managing Consultant Sean Doherty looks forward to 2018 and identifies a potential black hole in Solicitor numbers that could end up holding back the sector for years to come.

Considering an in-house move?
In 2014 the proportion of qualified Solicitors working in-house expanded to 21.1%, continuing the upward trend growth that has taken hold since the start of the millennium.
At Douglas Scott our In-house team works with some of the biggest brands in Commerce and Industry. We speak to candidates on a daily basis about moving In-house, so as a bit of a taster Senior Recruitment Consultant Olivia Collicott has put together a bite-size list containing 3 things you might want to consider when making the move from Private Practice to In-house legal team.

Ever increasing circles?
Becoming – and remaining – known by partners at your firm can make the difference between you getting the seat of your choice or not, and indeed the NQ offer in the practice of your choice or not. And of course beyond qualification, your ability to network well with potential clients will strongly influence the work you’re able to draw to the firm.
Most people don’t become networking supremoes overnight. It’s an ability that can be grown gradually. But how? Let us take a few easy first steps.
Our Qualification Career Consultant, Andrew Fieldhouse, has provided some tips on how to make networking easier and more beneficial.

There will be blood
With Halloween around the corner staff at Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment decided to mark the occasion by spilling a bit of blood.
Senior Recruitment Consultant Laura Shepherd and her colleagues at Douglas Scott shrugged off any initial fears they had about the process and donated a total of 25 pints over the last week.
Less than 3% of people aged between 17 and 70 living in England have donated blood in the last year and the NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on 100,000 to register to become a blood donor between 15th August and 31st October. Currently, over 6,000 donations are needed each day to treat patients across the country.

The only salary survey that counts - be a part of it
Last year we crunched through £166million of salary data to produce our best ever Annual Big Data Survey. A record number of respondents shared their experience of life in legal. And we would like your help again.
Last year we gave away an iPad. This time round someone is going to pocket a £500 gift card of their choice - to be delivered in time for Christmas. One of our guys suggested a Virgin Card to put towards a flight to New York but we are sure the lucky winner will have their own ideas.
Click here to have your say and be in with the chance of winning £500. It shouldn't take you longer than 5 minutes. Hurry though the survey is only open for a few weeks.
