In this edition, we look at transitions, whether it be supporting families transitioning from their early childhood approach program to the Carers Queensland LAC program, or young people transitioning from school to adult life and the opportunities available to them.

Read about how Keegan and Amelia are making their dreams come true as young adults with their NDIS supports.

Find out more about the successful Be Your Own Boss project which is empowering, educating and supporting people with disability to establish their own microbusiness in the new season of our Choice and Control podcast!

And make sure you take the time to register for the Carers Queensland NAIDOC Week art exhibition, where local Ipswich artists explain how art helps them with their disability.

Supporting the transition of young people with disability and their families from early childhood to adult life

This month, Carers Queensland has hosted local forums in Brisbane and Rockhampton to support families transitioning from their early childhood approach program to the Carers Queensland LAC program and helping young people transition from school to adult life.

We connected with families and carers of young people aged 12 to 17 years at our School To Adult Life Transition Family Connect Forum in Brisbane, identifying potential barriers and challenges for young people transitioning from school to adult life and helping them to feel empowered to set and achieve transition-related goals.

Families transitioning from their Early Childhood Approach (ECA) partner to Carers Queensland have also been supported with recent information sessions, including the Early Childhood Transition - Family Connect forum in Rockhampton.

Training anytime, anywhere

For more than 10 years, our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) has been providing subsidised and accredited training for unpaid carers.

Carers Queensland has supported hundreds of carers to learn new skills and gain new qualifications.

But the future of training is evolving, and so are we.

From June this year, we will be rolling out a new model of training that is highly flexible, engaging and online. We also provide dedicated staff to support your journey and training outcomes.

With this new model, you will be able to access your training anytime, anywhere.

In a nutshell, it’s training that will help you be your best, no matter where you are.
