Victoria LaFave

Student Spotlight: Victoria LaFave

Often in graduate education we find ourselves working towards the expectations of others but, in our future careers, we will most likely build our own pathways to success. This means that we will build our own timelines, measure our own success, and make decisions that benefit us. Learning to voice these goals is a skill I will take with me.

Learn how Victoria LaFave (Theatre Arts) is building her own pathway to success at the intersections of academic work and publicly engaged teaching.

Director's Tip of the Month

If you’re interested in Pitching Your Own summer immersive but not sure where to begin, here are some suggestions to get things rolling:

  • Think about your strengths, experiences, and passions – your Immersive Fellowship can be connected to your research area, but it doesn’t have to be – you might want to explore a field or skillset that might expand your marketability in different directions.
  • Explore organizations with whom Pitt already has connections – the Engagement Map is a great resource.
  • Reach out to previous Immersive fellows to ask about their experiences.
  • Make an appointment with me to discuss (helpful, but also required!).
  • To find a personal point of contact with the organization, check LinkedIn or Pitt Commons.
  • Review industry-specific skills such as converting your cv to a resume and preparing for an informational interview. HE has a ton of resources.
  • If you’re still stuck, apply for one of our Curated Immersives instead!

All the best,

Melissa
