Southern success for Canoe & Campi

The 2026 Canoe & Campi finals delivered plenty of great bowls, close competition and some memorable results as players put their winter coaching into action.

South East claimed the Campi championship, with Hannah Dawson, Dana Taylor, Janine Hickmore and sub Jo McCarthy taking top honours. East finished as Championship runners-up, while West featured strongly across the post-section results, claiming the Plate and both Flight 1 and Flight 2.

In the Canoe, South created a little piece of history, winning the Championship for what is believed to be the first time since 1988. Thomas Teinaki, Ed Tutai Jnr, Guy Harrison and Tika Noroto led the way, with West finishing as runners-up.

Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who represented their zone. A huge thank you also to Bridge Park and Epsom, Convenors Weng and Gerard, our umpires, coaches, volunteers and supporters for helping make another fantastic Campi and Canoe weekend happen.

Wellington, Here We Come!

Auckland’s Under 26 team is packed and set for Wellington after completing its final training on session on Monday ahead of this weekend’s National U26 Five-a-Side Tournament.

The squad had a solid hit-out on Monday night with some of Auckland’s Premier and Development reps helping put the young team through its paces. There were plenty of magic moments on display, but on the night, it was the Prem-Dev side that came away with a 3–1 win.

We welcomed Jason Wong to the team, stepping in for an injured Liam Hill. It will be Jason’s first time pulling on the blue and white for Auckland.

A special shout-out also goes to Lilly Wesche, who stepped up as a stand-in and potential sub during Monday’s session while the team awaited confirmation on whether an unwell Hannah Dawson would be cleared to travel.

The team heads south today, with a practice session scheduled at Naenae before the tournament gets underway at 8.30am on Saturday. We’re looking forward to see the team in action!

ABCA Cup: 44 teams - one big weekend!

The Winter Coaching Programme is going out with a bang this weekend, with a record 44 teams lining up for the ABCA Cup!

Fresh from last weekend’s Canoe and Campi action, there’ll be plenty of players arriving with form on the board and keen to go one better. Defending champion Sam Brack, Canoe champion Thomas Teinaki and a strong contingent of teams from the West are just a few to keep an eye on.

There are also some tasty early match-ups on the cards, including Chris Hand taking on Craig Moffat in Round 2, before facing Fraema Akaruru-Teinaki in Round 3. In a compact format like the ABCA Cup, every game counts!

A quick heads-up for players: Pakuranga gets underway at 8.30am, while both Howick greens start at 9.00am. If you’re heading to Howick, allow a little extra time for parking following recent work on the carpark.

And don’t forget – the Taylor Bowls raffle will be drawn at prizegiving, with a few tickets still available throughout the day.

With 44 teams, plenty of talent and one final chance to finish the winter coaching programme on a high, it’s shaping up to be a cracking day of bowls.

Rangatahi Roll keeping the game rolling

Term Three is proving to be a busy one for Rangatahi Roll Up, with nearly 1,000 young people introduced to bowls in just the past five weeks!

The programme has expanded into intermediate schools, while the All-Abilities programme continues to grow through partnerships with specialist schools and clubs. Students from CASS and Sommerville School are getting the chance to roll up, have some fun and discover just how inclusive bowls can be.

Bowls Auckland also recently joined 17 other organisations at the Tuia Waitākere Healthy Active Learning Opportunities Expo, showcasing how bowls can help young people of all ages and abilities get active.

With more schools, more young people and plenty of smiles along the way, Rangatahi Roll Up is certainly keeping the game rolling!
