In this guest article, Rowan Barnes, Senior Project Coordinator Material Focus, shares progress on the ongoing campaign to tackle the environmental impact of vapes at UK music festivals.
Despite the ban on single-use vapes over 8 million vapes a week are still being binned incorrectly leading to landfill and a loss of the valuable material they embody as well as real risks of fire and contamination due to the lithium batteries they contain. onboard:earth launch Green Travel Toolkit for Welsh Events at AIF Festivals Summit

The charity onboard:earth has launched its Green Travel Guide and Toolkit for Events in Wales at the Welsh Festivals Summit in Cardiff, 16th October 2025.
Shared with delegates at the Summit, presented by the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) and British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA), the new toolkit provides specialist advice and resources for increasing low-carbon travel at live outdoor events across the country. To address a growing need to understand the sustainability credentials of the supply chain and chart Scope 3 emissions, a group of cultural sector organisations, led by supplier workshops at The Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO), has created an open access, easy-to-use google-based form that can be sent by any organisation to suppliers. It can be used by outdoor event organisers and their supply chain too, and shared to save time and effort in understanding the environmental impact of supply chains.
