Webversion COMPETENCE IN PAPER NewsletterFebruary 2023 From the associationZELLCHEMING meeting of the boardDear members and friends of ZELLCHEMING, Last week, the extended board met for a two-hour online meeting. The agenda included the introduction of the CRM software, the program design for the ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2023 and the preparation of the General Meeting 2023. The decision in favor of the CRM system has already been made, taking into account the top decision-making criteria (functional user interface; management of member data, committees and events; modern and easily accessible member area), and final approval will be given by the management in the course of the month. The implementation of the new CRM system is planned from March to September. ![]() The program design continues to progress, thanks to the active engagement of the technical committees and the Board. All content should be finalized by the end of February and the program itself published in early March. The ZELLCHEMING General Meeting is scheduled for June 21 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the RheinMain CongressCenter (RMCC) in Wiesbaden. Please make a note of this important date already! ZELLCHEMING-ExpoGood start to Expo yearAlready in the fourth calendar week we could register more than 80 main and co-exhibitors, who will occupy an area of more than 1,400 sqm with their booths. The ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2023 is thus already more than 70% booked. Almost all of the companies that traditionally support the trade fair event are again involved. "From our point of view, this is a very positive development, especially against the backdrop of a still tense geopolitical situation that is having a significant impact on the economic activities of our industry," explains Petra Hanke, Managing Director of ZELLCHEMING Service GmbH. "The dynamics in the area of new exhibitors should also be highlighted. For example, in addition to registrations from Germany and Austria, we also have commitments from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy and Belgium." New Expo conceptAnother highlight of the ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2023 will be the newly introduced Career Day. The ZELLCHEMING Career Day offers companies an attractive platform in a thematically tailored environment where they can not only present themselves, their field of activity as well as the career opportunities in their company, but also directly establish contacts with potential new employees. For students and trainees, the ZELLCHEMING Career Day opens up access to companies in the pulp and paper industry - they meet a large number of employers who have jobs/internships available or offer cooperation for final theses. In addition, students and trainees are given the opportunity to get to know different companies (both on the part of manufacturers and suppliers) where they could complete the practical phase provided for in the course of their studies or where they could work after completing their training. ![]() The ZELLCHEMING Career Day is aimed at employers, universities, educational institutions, personnel service providers, institutes, associations or other organizations. It offers the opportunity to achieve many personal contacts in a short time and in a special location. "We are also building a bridge here to one of the cornerstones of the ZELLCHEMING association: promoting young talent," explains Vice Chair, Prof. Helga Zollner-Croll. "We are happy if technical committees as well as member companies support this initiative with ideas or actions!" For more details, please send an e-mail to: c.gembus@zellcheming.de. Online workshop visitors marketingAt the end of January, the ZELLCHEMING Expo Exhibitor Advisory Board met as part of an online workshop on visitor marketing. Petra Hanke emphasized the goal of increasing the number of Expo visitors by 20% from a good 1,900 last year for 2023. The focus will be on the target groups "manufacturers/production" and "science/industry organizations," Hanke said. In addition, the ZELLCHEMING technical committees, for example, will also take on some more important roles in the trade show. ![]() The discussion then turned to a participant analysis prepared by the office, which highlighted strengths and weaknesses in the visitor structure. The suggestions will now form the starting point for a wide range of activities, which also involve the ZELLCHEMING board and advisory board members. "Our analysis has struck a nerve," says ZELLCHEMING Chairman Dr. Ernst-Ulrich Wittmann. "We can clearly see the potential for optimization and will work together to leverage it!" Team reinforcementSince the beginning of the year Anja Gronkowski strengthens our team part-time as Office Manager! She has extensive professional experience in various industries, including trade fairs. For example, she has been supporting the Frankfurt Book Fair for more than 15 years in the areas of online editing and technical support. For ZELLCHEMING Service GmbH, Ms. Gronkowski will also be responsible for speaker support and updating the ZELLCHEMING-Expo program. Anja Gronkowski "I am grateful to have landed in an environment that is both new and exciting for me. So far, I have not given much thought to the production of paper, packaging or their use and I am overwhelmed by the scope as well as the complexity of paper production," she summarizes the impressions of the first weeks. "I am already very excited about Expo 2023 and am particularly looking forward to the start-up area." From the membershipOnQuality successfully put into operation at WEPAQuality control systems are essential in paper production to continuously optimize production and quality processes. Thanks to their compact design, flexible use, and high reliability, the OnQuality quality control systems (QCS) from ZELLCHEMING member Voith are already being used in over 750 installations worldwide in existing and new plants. The system's high flexibility is particularly evident in the project with the customer WEPA. Here, the solution was installed at TM 1 in Mainz. "We decided to replace our previous QCS with Voith OnQuality because of the short rebuild and commission time of only 12 hours, as well as the seamless and individual integration into our existing process control system," reports Jürgen Birk, Mainz mill manager at WEPA. Especially for hygiene paper manufacturers, Voith offers scanner models that are equipped with shields and additional cleaning nozzles for the measuring carriage. They facilitate cleaning and maintenance work and improve the accuracy of the measurements. Due to the high level of satisfaction with the new quality control system, the hygiene paper manufacturer decided to take another step on the road to digitalization. As part of OnQuality 4.0, the cloud platform will collect and store all relevant production and quality data from TM 1 in the future, enabling WEPA to perform in-depth analyses using personalized dashboards. Profile charts, color maps, maintenance cockpits, trends and reports can be intuitively created and displayed on mobile devices with just a few clicks. In addition, using a virtual sensor will complement the physical measurements and thus quickly and directly reveal deviations from the critical target quality in a profitable manner, which can otherwise only be recorded in the laboratory randomly. From the networkZELLCHEMING Women4Paper mentoring programWe are pleased to introduce one of our three tandems in the pilot year of the ZELLCHEMING Women4Paper mentoring program! "I am looking forward to the exchange with my mentor and find it a great opportunity to get support from a mentor already now during my studies," says Paulina. "From the very beginning, I have supported the mentoring program of the Women4Paper initiative under the ZELLCHEMING umbrella and am delighted to be personally involved as a mentor in the first tandems. It is a matter close to my heart to actively support young women like Paulina in their professional development and to pass on my experience, my network and my knowledge against the background of many years of management experience in the paper and packaging industry," says Monika. We wish you a good exchange and already are looking forward to the experience report at the ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2023!
