British Columbia is a place that we think Mother Nature likes to show off and share. Take as many opportunities as you can to explore our wilderness, parks, trails, lakes and rivers and be inspired by nature. It is amazing how invigorating a short walk, long hike or other outdoor activities can be. Don't wait, get out there. Regenerate and Reconnect. While you are out in nature, please make sure you Recreate Responsibly. We typically think that Mother Nature will always give to us, make us feel better, provide us with amazing things. We need to turn that into a circular exchange, where we give back to Mother Nature whenever we can. Check out our latest BLBCA Blog for tips on how to Recreate Responsibly. The BLBCA welcomes you back to another episode of Mountain Escapes. In this episode Brad chats with Sabine and Aaron Cooperman, owners/operators/guides of Sol Mountain Lodge, located in the Monashee Mountains, south of Revelstoke, BC. Sol Mountain Lodge is an amazingly comfortable facility, situated in big snow country and is definitely family-friendly. The Cooperman's young adult children, Josee & Seth are actively involved in the day-to-day operation. Don't miss it. Special thanks to Destination BC and TIABC for supporting our podcasts. GLACIAL RECESSIONTHIS IS A BIG PROBLEM CBC News recently featured an interesting article about the alarming rate at which our glaciers are retreating. The article was penned by Christy Climenhaga and it caught my attention. I have spent much of my adult life climbing or ski touring in the Columbia Mountains, Rockies, Selkirks, Purcells and Monashees. In my time the amount and speed of the recession is mind-boggling. Many climbing routes have been completely changed and increased dramatically in difficulty. Those are minor problems, glaciers are the storage units for our freshwater supply, what will the praries and interior of BC do without that supply. I have included two pictures of the Vowell Glacier, taken from exactly the same spot. One was taken in 1990, the other in 2008. The amout of ice that the glacier is remarkable, particularly the lost depth of the ice. I recommend checking the article out, at Breaking the Ice.
