MABC celebrates anniversary with string of successes

The Mount Albert Bowling Club’s 125-anniversary celebrations wound down recently, and what better way to top off a special year than with a string of successes on the greens.

2022 Commonwealth Games bowler Tony Grantham bagged himself a Silver and a Bronze at the recent Multi-Nations Tournament on the Gold Coast (securing himself a place in the New Zealand team at the World Series in Australia in August).

Closer to home, Tony added to his list of Titles by winning both the Champ of Champs Singles and the Auckland Centre Fours, with team-mates Zoran Bartulovich, Neven Grgicevich, and Randall Watkins.

Great Western Showdown

There was no rest for the wicked Sunday morning as 1-3 Year players from across the city rode up to Glen Eden's club for the 6th annual Great Western Showdown.

Instigated in 2018 by Sammy Sadler, the tournament provides an opportunity for players at the start of their bowling career to compete against contemporaries without any fear of facing any veteran bowl-slingers.

The day went well with some great bowls being played in a positive atmosphere on and off the green.

-- Darren Schroeder

The folks who collected their rewards:
1st: Ryan Hawthorne, Ryan Hill, & Jhanna Savov (Mt Albert) 4 wins, 24 ends, 56 pts.
2nd: Allan McQuid, Wayne Harris, & Kerry Greenhaigh (Orewa) 4 wins, 23 ends, 52 pts.
