Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! Headteacher updateHello all, So the end of term threw yet another curve ball at us, in the shape of a heatwave! I'm pleased to say that although we could not proceed with the Sports Day events as planned due to the extreme temperatures, it was lovely to be able to welcome parents and carers in to catch up with staff, but also with each other. We were extra careful with sun hats, sun cream, clothing and drinks to make sure that pupils were able to enjoy their planned offsite activities to celebrate the end of the 2021/22 academic year. Needless to say that the children (and staff!) had a fabulous time, with trips to Geevor Tin Mine, Camel Creek Adventure Park, The Milk Way and Bellever Forest to name but a few. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to the HHHS staff team, who work tirelessly to support and create opportunities for our pupils to learn, in the most creative, incredible ways. I hope you all enjoy the well-earned break. And a huge thank you of course to all of our pupils, parents and carers for another successful year. I hope you are able to enjoy the coming weeks, and can return in September refreshed and ready for the 2022/23 academic year. On that note, just a gentle reminder that Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd September are inset days, so we look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Monday 5th September. As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything. Warm wishes, Gina Wagland Headteacher Time2Move Holiday ProgrammeIf you haven't already, please do take a look at the Time2Move Programme of activities planned locally throughout the summer holidays, courtesy of ActiveCornwall. If you click on the link below, put in your postcode and then select a radius, you will see a list of activities that are available to book online. There are activities planned at Stratton Primary, The Parkhouse Centre and Adventure Bude in the immediate vicinity, but various options are available across the region. The Time2Move Holiday Programme offers free out-of-school activities during the Easter, Summer and Winter holidays in Cornwall. It aims to support families on low incomes who are more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health. Those eligible for free school meals can access activities free of charge by using a unique booking code. To find your child's free school meal code, click here. Some exciting news from Julie, Chair of the BoardHello everyone, I have some good news to share. The school has a new partner called Melrose Education. Melrose is a small group of Special Needs Schools, who were looking to find ‘Good’ Special Needs Schools to join their group. Highgate Hill House School is a ‘Good’ school and so they were very enthusiastic about us joining them and are looking to continue to invest in the school. You can see more information about Melrose Education at https://melroseeducation.com/ So, it will be business as usual for myself, Pete Birkett and Gina Wagland in September and their Executive Chair Tracey Storey will also be coming into school to meet Gina and staff in September. I hope that you are all able to enjoy the summer recess and look forward to welcoming everyone back to school in September.
