Tree planting

Tree planting on Friday 9 August 2024

Seven of the thirty-four Tulip trees have been planted which will be replacing the thirteen trees that were in poor condition along Willoughby Road.

Tulip trees share similar characteristics to the London Plane tree in size and shape but are a different species. Tulip trees don’t contain tiny hairs (called trichoimes), a characteristic London Plane trees have that cause allergy-related symptoms for some people. Tulip trees can grow up to 10 meters with distinctive mid-green leaves that turn rich yellow. In late spring and summer tulip-shaped flowers bloom.

The upcoming removal of overhead electrical lines will allow the new trees to grow to their full potential.
