Shut up & Write! Attention HDR students! Looking for a focused, supportive environment to work on your thesis? Our ‘Shut Up & Write!’ sessions are designed to help you stay on track and make meaningful progress. These fortnightly sessions alternate between in-person meetings and online via Zoom, providing both flexibility and convenience. What can you expect?

The 2024 Annual Review is due by no later than 31 October 2024. We ask that you check your candidature record in MyAdelaide to see whether you are required to complete this milestone. To inspire timely completion of the Annual Review, the Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) is offering prizes from Just Bliss Chocolates: https://www.justbliss.com.au/ for the 1st, 50th, 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and 500th annual reviews completed and submitted to the AGRS. An additional 3 students, randomly selected from amongst those completing their reviews prior to 31 October 2024, will also receive prizes. The Upcycle Adelaide Closet is here to help.As part of the Student Health and Wellbeing team's World Mental Health Day event, The Upcycle Adelaide project's soft launch was held at the Barr Smith Lawns on 10th of October. The pilot project, supported by Learning and Teaching, the Student Wellbeing team, and the Media Department, sources new or gently used professional clothing from faculty and staff to provide students with free garments for interviews, internships, and conferences. It's led and managed by six dedicated HDR students and alumni (Kate Roff, Megan Moon, Elmira Nouri, Ranjani Ragotham, Robert Boucaut, and Sebastian Morrison). With empty racks by the end of the day and a lot of interest, the soft launch was a huge success, and the team look forward to opening a permanent "closet" for the project in the Napier building soon. Industry Codan, a global leader in electronics solutions, is supporting exceptional PhD candidates in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering to undertake applied research programs at the University of Adelaide, through the Codan Founders’ Scholarship program. The AGRS welcomes applications for an open opportunity under this program, for an industry PhD with Minelab, a leading manufacturer of hand-held metal detection technologies. The successful candidate will work with specialists at the University and Minelab to explore the use of semi-autonomous robots in metal detection. The successful candidate will receive a Codan Founders' Scholarship of $42,500 p.a., for 3.75 years, and undertake an internship at Minelab. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process. Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) Grants Applications are now open for the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) 2024-2025 Grant Round. Up to $300,000 is available for both one-year and multi-year grants. COALAR aims to enhance and strengthen links between Australia and Latin America in the priority areas of business, education, sustainability, tourism and cultural promotion. Applications are open until 11:59pm (AEDT), Friday 25 October 2024. Mawson Lakes Fellowship Program The application deadline for the Mawson Lakes Fellowship Program (MLFP) has been extended until Friday 1 November 2024. Grants are available for the development of research collaboration in urban planning, urban design, environmental management and related disciplines between the three South Australian universities and three universities in Japan – Nagoya, Tsukuba and Waseda. Visualise your thesis 2024 Competition Congratulations to Mel Ngyuen (School of Agriculture, Food & Wine) who took first place in this year’s Visualise Your Thesis competition at the University of Adelaide, with From your kitchen food scraps to your kitchen food wrap. Mel will receive $1000 and the opportunity to participate in the International competition currently being held. Hussain Ahmad (School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences) won second place and the People’s Choice Award, and Claudia Martinez (School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences) won third place.
