Women’s Para pairs team of Teri Blackbourn and Julie O’Connell finished with four wins to top their section on debut and move directly through to the semi-finals, where they will play Thailand tomorrow. Thus, they have guaranteed themselves a medal with only the colour to be decided. A Kiwi bowls team for the agesNew Zealand's bowlers go into their first world champs since 2016 this week on the Gold Coast, in fine form and with generations of talent Kitted out in her Blackjack shorts and shirt, Val Smith is sitting in the Gold Coast “team room” days out from contesting her 5th world bowls championships. Beside her is teammate Katelyn Inch – aged 28 – 30 years younger than Smith. But the age difference seems immaterial.

Auckland high performance trialsHigh performance trials for Auckland 1-5 Year bowlers will be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday, 6 September at Remuera Bowls. The trials are ideal for bowlers to demonstrate why they should represent your region! If you cannot attend the trials but would still like to be considered, message Peter Blucher at 021 868 664. The first competition for Auckland 1-5 Year representatives is on Saturday, 30 September hosted in Auckland. Auckland bowler, Adam Ballie is part of a 12-person squad representing New Zealand in the 9th edition of the International Deaf Bowls Federation Championship hosted in Edinburgh from 2-12 September. Adam’s disability certainly hasn’t hindered his performance on the green. Playing and winning events, including mainstream tournaments, has led him to fulfil a dream - to represent New Zealand. England, Ireland, NZ, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, India and Australia are the eight nations competing. We wish the NZ squad the best of luck during the competition and will follow your progress with interest. The International Deaf Bowls Federation is posting event info on their Facebook page. Auckland Bowling Club wishes to extend their sympathies to the Breckon family on the recent passing of Garry Breckon. Garry was an avid bowler and a member. He had won some titles during his bowling career, including three Auckland Centre titles. Garry was a friend to many around Auckland and will be sorely missed in the bowls community.
