My first duty is to Congratulate Mr Phil Greenwood, fellow Director, for being amongst the Australia Day Award recipients announced by the Governor General. We congratulate Phil on his OAM and thank him for the contribution he makes to Cancer Council ACT. As we approach one month out from Relay For Life, I’m looking forward to wearing purple to raise awareness for the event, and the impact it has on supporting those with cancer in our community. I encourage you all to get out in the beautiful fresh air of Canberra and help us raise much needed funds and awareness. Make sure to register and join us on the track on 1-2 April as we return to the overnight event for the first time in several years. Whilst summer may be coming to an end, we need to keep taking care of our skin and being SunSmart – check out the new global SunSmart UV app and make sure to slip, slop, slap seek and slide when that UV gets to 3 or above. Patients and their supporters can drop by for a chat with the Cancer Council ACT Liaison, located on level 2 of the Canberra Region Cancer Centre, in the information bay. Dates and times will vary to accommodate a range of patients attending the clinics and will be signposted onsite and on our website. Mr Greenwood has been a valued member of the Cancer Council ACT Board since 2018. He has also served our community through many roles as a volunteer and in the not-for-profit sector here in Canberra, building on his history in education, defence, business, science and health. Paint Canberra PurpleOn Thursday 2 March 2023 we are calling all Canberrans to dress up or decorate in PURPLE to raise awareness of Relay For Life. Wear something purple, decorate your school or workplace and take a photo to share your PURPLE on social media - tag @cancercouncilact or use #paintcanberrapurple so we can reshare on our channels. Give where you liveHelp us raise much needed funds to expand our Cancer Council ACT Liaison service and provide support to more Canberra families impacted by cancer. SunSmart Global UV AppThe Cancer Council SunSmart team has worked with The Bureau of Meteorology and Deakin University to develop a global UV app. Now you can check the UV from wherever you are across the world and be SunSmart. Download it free from the Apple or Google Play App Store. The March ChargeThe March Charge is a personal challenge fundraiser where you can choose your distance goal to Charge during March. Charge as an individual, with a partner or in a team. The Grand GalaCancer Council ACT Ambassador Emily Egan is hosting The Grand Gala fundraiser event on Saturday 15 April 2023 at the National Arboretum. Cancer Council ACT Pathology Prize Year FourCongratulations to Kate Phillips on being the 2022 recipient of the Cancer Council ACT Pathology Prize Year Four. This prize was awarded to Ms Phillips for her outstanding and comprehensive knowledge and application of pathology issues at the Year Four level examination of the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery Program at the Australian National University Medical School.
