Daffodil News September 2022

Welcome to the first issue of Daffodil News for 2023.

My first duty is to Congratulate Mr Phil Greenwood, fellow Director, for being amongst the Australia Day Award recipients announced by the Governor General.  We congratulate Phil on his OAM and thank him for the contribution he makes to Cancer Council ACT.

As we approach one month out from Relay For Life, I’m looking forward to wearing purple to raise awareness for the event, and the impact it has on supporting those with cancer in our community. I encourage you all to get out in the beautiful fresh air of Canberra and help us raise much needed funds and awareness. Make sure to register and join us on the track on 1-2 April as we return to the overnight event for the first time in several years.

Whilst summer may be coming to an end, we need to keep taking care of our skin and being SunSmart – check out the new global SunSmart UV app and make sure to slip, slop, slap seek and slide when that UV gets to 3 or above.

Thank you for being such an important part of Cancer Council ACT. Together, with your support, it’s all of us against cancer.

- Roger Buckley, Cancer Council ACT Board President

Cancer Council ACT Liaison

Cancer Council ACT Liaison

Cancer Council ACT is working in partnership with the Canberra Region Cancer Centre to provide a Cancer Council ACT Liaison at the Centre.
The Cancer Council ACT Liaison role sees our wonderful cancer nurses Kathlene and Mary provide support and information to Canberrans undergoing cancer treatment, as well their family, friends, and carers.

Patients and their supporters can drop by for a chat with the Cancer Council ACT Liaison, located on level 2 of the Canberra Region Cancer Centre, in the information bay. Dates and times will vary to accommodate a range of patients attending the clinics and will be signposted onsite and on our website.

Additionally, if you would like to make a time to speak to our Cancer Support Coordinators in person in our Deakin office, please contact us on the details below to book a session.

If you have any questions, or want to know more about the Cancer Council ACT Liaison, please call us on (02) 6257 9999 or email us at cancer.information@actcancer.org

Phil Greenwood OAM

Congratulations to our Board Vice-President Mr Phil Greenwood on receiving an Order of Australia Medal last week. Mr Greenwood has been a valued member of the Cancer Council ACT Board since 2018. He has also served our community through many roles as a volunteer and in the not-for-profit sector here in Canberra, building on his history in education, defence, business, science and health. Thank you, Phil, for all you give to us here at Cancer Council ACT, and for how you have supported the wider Canberra community.
