Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Families, Welcome to Term 4 at Kennedy Baptist College. I trust everyone has had a restful break. This term will continue to provide a wide range of opportunities for students across all learning areas and will culminate with examinations for students in Years 9 to 12.
Uniform StandardsLast term a letter was sent to all families addressing our expected uniform standards as we return to summer uniform. I would like to reinforce this communication by emphasising the importance our dress standard has on the culture of Kennedy. We have very clear expectations for standards of presentation and they have been explicitly articulated to all members of our community. This includes our expectations for hairstyles. Extreme hairstyles do not have a place in the Kennedy presentation standards.
‘Students are expected to keep their hair neat and tidy. All hair is to be cut no shorter than a number 2 and hair that is collar length or longer must all be tied back and away from the face with the tie pointing towards the back of the head. Hair should be tied back with hair coloured elastic and hair accessories should be navy blue. Hair clips if used should match hair colour. Extremes of hair colouring or hair styles including long fringes, shaven sides, dreadlocks or shaven heads are not permitted’ The Physical Education uniform is only to be worn as indicated in the Uniform Policy, not as an alternative to the normal summer
uniform.
Year 12 Last Day: Wednesday 19 October
Next Wednesday we will honour and farewell our Year 12 students at a special Assembly on their last official day of classes at Kennedy. We wish them all the very best as a large number of these students commence their final preparations for the WACE examinations which will then be used for university entrance. This Assembly will also be used to present Year 12 academic and community awards. Year 12 Graduation will then take place on Friday 18 November after the WACE examinations. I hope all of our Year 12 families can join us for both of these special events.
Year 11 Awards AssemblyOn Wednesday morning, 2 November we will celebrate the achievement of our Year 11 students at their last Assembly for the year. This will be a formal occasion to present a range of awards to our Year 11 students and it would be wonderful to have as many families as possible joining us on the morning for this special celebration.
Year 7-10 Last Day 2022
Tuesday 6 December will be the last day for Year 7 – 10 students at Kennedy this year. The day will commence with our special awards assembly to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of all students. This will also be a formal occasion to present a large range of awards and we hope you can join us for this fitting end to the academic year. Mr Mark Ashby
Principal
Term 3 concluded with an encouraging Assembly. Mr Ashby talked about our College discipline policy and that we are a community that values one another, and any negative or disrespectful behavior will be dealt with by our Pastoral Care Team. Students were encouraged to reach out and speak up if they see their peers behaving in a way that does not reflect the College
values. We congratulated our 2022 Student Executive for their commitment and acknowledged the many students who applied for student leadership roles for 2023. We took time to acknowledge and wish our Year 12 students all the best for their upcoming final examinations. The much-anticipated announcement of the 2022 Kennedy Cup winner concluded the Assembly. Congratulations to Eyre House - 2022 Champions! Thank you to all the staff, students, and our Kennedy community for a great Term 3! Please click here for photos.
Annual Champions Read Events
We are celebrating reading with our Annual Champions Read. The 2022 theme is Read ‘n’ Feed: Nurture Your Mind. Students receive points for every 15 minutes that they read continuously for leisure. These points are awarded to their respective House and the House with the most points at the end of Week 3 will win the Champions Read Shield. All points go towards the 2023 Kennedy Cup. Our Years 7 and 8 students were entertained by Wednesday Weeks authors, Cristy Burne and Denis Knight, who also ran a writing workshop for select students. They successfully used humour, emotion, and science to capture the students’ attention, and promoted creative thinking to enthuse them about reading, writing, creating and STEM. Events during Champions Read include guessing the book in a jar competition, reading during Extended Form, garden photo booth, edible book cupcake competition, and a dress-up as a book character day on Thursday 27 October. Nurture your mind: Read!
What parents need to knowMost Gen Z'ers (anyone born between 1995 and 2009) will know what Omegle is. They may think about it as harmless humour. A bit weird or super creepy and concerning. The Omegle website has been around for years but has recently been the subject of interest amongst our students. Omegle markets itself as a free platform where you can "meet great new friends" on the internet. It's a website where users can either message or video chat with a complete stranger, with users randomly paired with another person online to communicate one-on-one. Further information can be found here. This video link from The Project may help you navigate a discussion with your child.
Term 4 P&F General Meeting Parents are encouraged to join us at the Term 4 Parents and Friends General Committee Meeting. The meeting will be held on Tuesday 25 October at 6:30pm in the Boardroom. If you need any other information or would like to receive their emails, please contact the P&F Committee via email. Beedawong Cafeteria – Term 4 The Cafeteria will be hosting and catering for major functions this term, including our Year 12 Final Day and Graduation. The cafeteria will be CLOSED for the entire day on the following dates: - Wednesday 19 October 2022: Year 12 Breakfast and formal Assembly.

We are pleased to help our parent community by offering a crucial and engaging education session with ySafe on Friday 18 November at 8.30am - 9.30am. If you’ve ever struggled with getting your children off their games and into bed, worried about the content of the games that they are playing or felt concerned that your child was spending too much time in the digital world, this workshop is for you! Please register below.
Kennedy requires parental consent to administer paracetamol to students. If your child has a condition requiring medication and you wish them to take the medication at College, please complete a medication form, which is also available from the office or SEQTA. The Health Centre will then store your child’s medication in a locked cupboard. Please make sure all medication is in the original packaging as we cannot accept medication provided in zip-lock bags etc. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Lost Property CupboardThe lost property cupboard is full of unnamed uniform items in particular, sports jackets. Please visit the lost property cupboard in Student Services if your child is missing any items.
