Walking Paths

The survey mailed to our residents in 2022 asked what improvements the park district could make to the parks in the community, and what programs you'd like to see the park district offer. For both questions, walking paths came up in the responses.

We had a few people ask for the sidewalk to be extended around the entire lake. While that would be a wonderful thing to see, we cannot do that because some of it is private property.

However, we do have 4 walking paths, or loops, identified  throughout the community, and a map of these paths can be found on our website. Click this LINK to go to the map, or scan the QR code to see it on your telephone/tablet.

We have paths that range from 1.2 miles to 2.4 miles. The distance of each path is listed on the map, as well as all the park district properties and amenities.

For our newer residents, this map would make a great resource for you to know where your park district properties are located!

Coyote Sightings

Coyotes are being seen in the park areas on a regular basis.

Coyotes are opportunistic predators and feed on a wide variety of food. They consume rabbits and small rodents, but they will also eat birds, frogs, skunks, berries, small dogs and cats, and the occasional beaver.

Keep an eye on your pets when you let them out in your yard - even if your yard is surrounded by a privacy fence. Coyote can and will climb a fence. When out walking your pets, keep them on a leash at all times to reduce encounters with coyotes.

It is recommended that people keep their garbage cans closed and keep pet food inside since these make easy meals for coyotes and other wildlife species.

To learn more about coyotes, you can go to LCFPD.org (Lake County Forest Preserves) and read the Frequently Asked Questions sheet in the Publications section.
