The School Cup Assembly recognised the efforts of students across all cohorts and it was great to see so many parents and family members in attendance. The school farewelled the Class of '22 on Wednesday, with students in Year 12 receiving their portfolios as well as those who were receiving first in course and special awards being recognised for their achievements. Congratulations to everyone on achieving this milestone and to parents and families for all the support they have provided over thirteen years, the last three of which have been especially challenging. We are so proud of our amazing students, their successes and achievements. Thank you to the wonderful staff and students who organised this great event and coordinated the stage and lighting. Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to attend to support our students. R U Ok DayOur R U OK Day celebrations were held on Tuesday 20 September. We had an enjoyable afternoon with a BBQ, inflatable bungee cord run, a staff vs students soccer game, chalk drawing, and wet-sponge throwing! Our amazing students also rose to the challenge of performing a random act of kindness by the end of the day, and pledged to check in with their friends. 2022 World Cup Soccer - Vatican City Defeat DenmarkThis year saw the running of the World Cup Soccer at Camden Haven High school. Eight teams from all age groups participated. We had teams from Nigeria, Jamaica, Brazil, Niger, China, Denmark, Vatican City and South Africa. These games were played at lunch time and were refereed by the Futsal Class. Making the semi-finals were Denmark, Niger, Brazil and Vatican City. Only one goal separated the finalists with Denmark and Vatican City meeting up in the grand final. Year 12 Soccer GameOn Tuesday 20 September the CHHS teachers challenged our Year 12 students in a gruelling soccer game. It was a close game and the competition was fierce. The teachers were victorious with a final score of 1-0. Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game!! Year 12 Science ExcursionYear 12 Science students enjoyed an awesome excursion to Sydney! Our promising HSC students let loose their brains to soak up the real-world examples of their Science courses, with structured sessions at ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation), the Australian Museum and Taronga Zoo. CHHS Debating TeamsThe Senior Debating team performed well this year against Bulli High School, Henry Lawson High, Glenwood High and had a close loss to St George Girls High School. With only one hour to prepare their speeches the debaters have to be able to think on their feet and handle the adrenaline and nerves associated with public speaking. Junior Public SpeakingYear 8 students, Phoebe F and Grace D, took part in the Legacy Junior Speaking Award local final earlier this term. Both students presented their prepared speeches, focusing on themes of difference and empathy, and were effective in engaging their audience. They were also required to deliver an impromptu speech on a given topic, with only five minutes to plan. CHHS Interact's Fundraiser for Wauchope HospitalCHHS Interact hosted a fundraiser on Friday of Week 8 to raise money to purchase radios for Wauchope Hospital. Wauchope Hospital Rehabilitation unit is the only publicly funded rehabilitation facility in our area. It has 15 beds and helps people regain their independence after strokes, accidents, surgeries and serious illnesses. The hospital building has no access to entertainment for patients who can reside in the hospital anywhere from a week to multiple months so the team decided to purchase radios to provide some comfort to patients residing there. To raise funds, music requests were taken and songs were played before and after school on the out of uniform day. During lunchtime on the day, a competition was held to name artists/bands. Congratulations to the winner Brock W, taking out a year's worth of Spotify premium. All money raised on the day will go to purchasing nine radios for the unit. Crazy Sock DayFriday 16 September was Crazy Sock Day! We raised money for the Love Your Sister Foundation, one of Australia’s best cancer vanquishing charities. Two students in Broken Hill, Abbie and Sam, made it their mission to get as many schools as possible to wear crazy socks for cancer. Suara Indonesia WorkshopStudents from 7 Bass and 7 Stingray had the opportunity to view a performance and participate in a workshop of Indonesian dance, delivered by the highly accomplished and talented duo of Alfira and Pak Mur. Many of the dances originate from the Aceh province of West Sumatra, where Pak Mur grew up. Boys Basketball TeamThe Boys Basketball Team on Wednesday travelled to Hunter Sports High for a friendly, before moving on to Sydney. The boys played a very strong defensive game, but our shots didn’t fall. We’re very proud of the team as this was a combination of the senior and junior teams along with 2 players making their debut (Congrats Jai and Swift). Overall, it was a great start to the World Cup Trip here in Sydney. On Thursday the team attended all 4 opening games and opening ceremony at the Sydney Superdome for the FIBA Women’s World Cup. Basketball World Cup TripToday the basketball team came back from Sydney after an incredible 2-day excursion. Yesterday, we attended the opening day of the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup. We spent over 13 hours at Olympic Park. The team got to partake in various activities including Brock taking on international performer The Basketball Man. I won't spoil the winner of that contest. Mr O'Keefe took home the player of the game over Swift and Alex. We then saw 4 amazing games including world number 1 USA vs our adopted team in Belgium, Japan vs Mali, China play one of the most clinical games ever vs Korea and France vs Australia with the return of Lauren Jackson. The score didn't go the Opals way, but we did see LJ become only the 3rd player in history to score 600 points in World Cup Play. There was also a beautiful opening ceremony with performance by Tones and I. Overall, an incredible experience for the boys. Bowling Bringing Hubs TogetherThe Manning and Great Lakes Learning Hubs celebrated the end of Term 3 with a fun-filled day at Taree Ten Pin Bowling. New friendships were forged, and barriers removed as the two groups came together. Students were able to converse confidently in a relaxed social setting. There was lots of laughter, and several challenges were made between students and their teachers. Molly showcased her excellent bowling skills, and everyone else managed at least one "strike" or at least a "spare". We enjoyed the 'best chips ever' and a cool refreshment for lunch. Port Macquarie Hub visits CHHSOn Tuesday 9 September students from our Learning Hub in Port Macquarie visited CHHS. They were able to meet their teachers in person for extra assistance. We know there are many bright, ambitious students who want to excel in their studies. But focusing on school is not always easy, especially if you’re facing challenges with your health, caring duties, home life, or the cost of education and training.
