Anglican Bishop urged to intervene in Auckland sportsground ownership stoushThe Anglican Bishop of Auckland is being urged to intervene in a messy dispute over the ownership of a central Auckland sports ground. The Hallyburton Johnstone Sports Club has hosted lawn bowls, tennis, and croquet at its Point Chevalier site since 1928. But a charity, the Anglican Trust for Women and Children (ATWC), argues it is the legal owner of the land, which had a capital value of $5.15 million. The trust was taking the sports club to the High Court as it wrestled to control the site. Point Chevalier Bowls Club president Simon Munro said they were preparing for the legal fight. 👉Read full RNZ story
Happy Easter to our bowls whānau! As we head into the long weekend, we hope you enjoy some well-earned time with family, friends, and those closest to you. Easter is a great reminder of the strength of our community and the simple joy of coming together. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and happy Easter break. Good luck at Kittyhawk U21 Singles
Best of luck to our Auckland bowlers heading south for the 2026 Kittyhawk’s Under 21 Singles, hosted by Bowls Wellington this Easter weekend. Played at Naenae from today through to Sunday, this year’s field of 32 is a fantastic chance for our next-gen to test themselves and connect with fellow young bowlers. Leading the charge is Hannah Dawson, fresh off an impressive top-eight finish at the Victoria Open Women’s Singles, a 2026 national women’s fours title and a previous Kittyhawk Girls winner, she’ll be one to watch again. Joining her is fellow Auckland rep Adam Blucher, who will be keen to add a Kittyhawk title to his growing resume after securing bronze in the 2026 national men’s singles. Rounding out the trio is emerging talent Christian-ly Filipo. After debuting at March's Zone 1 & 2 1–5 Octagonal, she continues to build nicely and gain valuable experience at this level.
Finalists Locked In: Men's Singles & Women's TriplesPost section delivered the goods at the Auckland Men’s Singles and Women’s Triples, with finalists now confirmed after two days of top-class competition. In the Men’s Singles, Zoran Bartulovich powered into the semis alongside Peter McConnell, Davey Motu, and Clinton Smith - setting up two cracking matchups. Over in the Women’s Triples, a new-look Howick combo surprised the field to make the final, where they’ll face a strong Carlton Cornwall side skipped by Estelle Hickey. Centre Finals are just around the corner… and it’s shaping up nicely!
Coaching Committee Applications Now OpenBowls Auckland is calling for expressions of interest to join its Coaches Committee – a key group helping shape and strengthen coaching across the region. The Committee supports initiatives to attract, retain, develop, and promote coaches at both club and regional level, with a strong focus on engaging those new to the game. It also plays a leading role in delivering the Year 0–5 Winter Programme, including the development pathway and popular Campi, Canoe, and ABCA Cup events. With five zone convenors (Central, East, South-East, South-West, and West) supported by the Bowls Auckland team, this is a great opportunity to grow your coaching capability while giving back to the sport. If you’re keen to get involved, we encourage you to learn more and apply before 30 April. 👉 Read more and apply here
