COVID-19 Medical
Response Office

Dear Pitt Community,

Cases on Pitt campuses continue to be mild and low in number. COVID-19 Community Levels in counties where there are Pitt campuses are now all low, indicating low numbers of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Top-line takeaways

  • This week, masking at Pitt became optional inside campus buildings. Masks are still required inside healthcare spaces  on campus and on University shuttles.
  • Individuals in quarantine or isolation must continue masking for a total of 10 days in all public spaces, inside and out.
  • Anyone is welcome to wear a mask at any time, for any reason.
  • Masks are highly effective at preventing COVID-19, or any other respiratory virus, for the person wearing the mask, even if others are not wearing masks.

Pitt has second boosters

The FDA this week authorized a second booster dose for certain populations at higher risk for disease, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. Anyone age 50 and older or anyone who has received a solid organ transplant (or is equivalently immunocompromised) is now able to receive a second booster shot, 4 months after their first.

Walk-ins are welcome at the Pitt CoVax Vaccination Center on the Pittsburgh campus. There is plenty of availability for first or second boosters, initial doses of the COVID-19 series, and even flu shots. If you have trouble registering for an appointment, please come in person.

Don’t forget to upload your updated COVID-19 booster information. It’s simple to do and helps provide a more complete health profile of the Pitt community.

Sincerely,

The COVID-19 Medical Response Office
